How to cancel order with RS Components

This is a tutorial on how to cancel your raspberry pi order with RS Components. I had done this as well because the shipping lead time was 11 WEEKS ! After it had been cancelled I ordered with Farnell

1. Enter your first name

2. Enter your last name

3. Enter the email you used to buy the raspberry pi with

4. Enter a contact number

5. Most importantly enter your online order reference. Double check this.

6. You will now receive an automatic email confirming that your order will or has been cancelled. If it has not been cancelled automatically, it will be cancelled within a few hours.

7. RS Components will now refund your money within 14 days.

Note : If you used PayPal as a payment method to buy the raspberry pi, you may have to file a dispute and force RS Components to refund you because they do not reply. RS Components have not refunded me so I am going to file a dispute because it has been more than 14 days.

Today is the 14th working day after my cancelation and still haven't received any refund or email from RS Components. I've sent an email yesterday and I'm waiting for a reply. If it doesn't arrive till tomorrow I'll press charges within Portuguese authorities.

Just be aware that in the cancellation e-mail, RS say 14 *Working* days, a clever little clause to keep money longer...

So, as I cancelled on the 10th August, that means that 14x 9 to 5 Monday to Fridays (they work on what days a bank is open, which is usually Mon-Fri) must pass before they'll cough up, so that would mean the 29th of August before I got anything, and if not, only THEN can I put in a claim with Paypal to return my money...

UPDATE : I WAS REFUNDED ON 17/08/2012 . RS DID NOT EVEN BOTHER TO REPLY TO PAYPAL ! PAYPAL HAD AUTOMATICALLY TAKEN £30.87 OUT OF RS COMPONENTS TO REFUND ME

I wish I hadn't paid them with a debit card. Not much to fall back on when you get caught up with a bunch of muppets like RS.

Did they pay back to you?
I want to cancel my order too, but I used a virtual credit card (MBNet) to pay, not PayPal, and I need to know how to proceed if they don't payback to my account since I can't force them to pay like if I had used PayPal.

I paid by credit card and also didn't get refund within those 14 working days.

Received mail from RS:

Apologies for the delay in crediting your refund. Our finance team experienced a system error at the beginning of August that has resulted in a backlog of refunds that need to be processed. Can I please give you a revised time frame of 25 days from the original email. Apologies for the future delay,

Apparently they are now trying to fix up their fault with the costumers and replying to emails.
Let's see if this continues this way so I don't need to cancel my order...

For me, initially the dispatch time was within 11weeks from my order date 3July2012. After sending two mails they replied me back saying it will dispatch on 24Sep. So i replied back asking how to cancel my order. But they cancelled my order and saying the money will be refunded in 14 working days.

Now i have to wait for my Money

I can't seem to get any response at all :/

I guess I'll have to contact my bank and report it as fraudulent and see if I can get a refund from them back onto my Visa card.

I believe distance selling regulations or something apply here so they should be able to do that.

And asked for the name and address of their legal team to send court documents to and informed them I will now go through the courts for my money.

I'd highly recommend anyone who is having trouble getting their money from this shambles of a company do the same.

Got my money back just now via a Paypal claim, so I can put in an order with Farnell now...

I'd just like to jump in and say that if you're canceling an order with RS just to order from Farnell, you might as well just stick it out with RS. Both Farnell and RS are great companies to order from and it's certainly your prerogative to choose which one to order from. But having ordered from both of them at the exact same time, I can with all confidence and authority state that they *both* operate in the exact same way. My order from Farnell arrived every so slightly sooner than my order from RS, but they both arrived well before the 9 week estimated wait time (I ordered from them shortly after the "you can now make bulk orders" announcement). If you cancel with RS just to re-order with Farnell (or vise versa for that mater) then you'll end up waiting a longer cumulative time than if you had just stuck it out with the one you initially ordered from.

Edit: That doesn't mean you shouldn't check the estimated lead times for the opposite company, with how popular the pi is there are bound to be times where one company is running out of stock and you just might come out significantly ahead swapping suppliers Like the saying goes, be gentle as doves and wise as serpents!
