Not your grandpa's stereo. My WiFi Pi + record player

Fri Jul 26, 2013 5:54 pm

Hey guys,
Just thought i'd share some work in progress images of a Pi based project i'm working on. It's a stereo/music box that, at it's core, will play music streamed from your iPhone/laptop using Shairport. There's a CRT screen that acts as a visualizer, and can also be used with the Pi to play a few arcade games using AdvMAME. In addition to the Pi, a record player and analog equalizer are also built into the case.

One additional feature i'd love to include is the ability to transmit audio from the record player back out over WiFi to other AirPlay/Shairport devices. Is currently any way to use the Pi to broadcast directly to these type of devices?

It isn't finished yet, but here are some pictures of the process so far:

Really cool project. Will be interested to see how/if the streaming from turntable to ??? works out.

One question about the alum etchcing if you don't mind. Any feel for how thin the aluminum can be? Certainly don't want to etch right through a thin (as is 1/32") piece.

Nice. Not sure how I missed this when you first posted it. Saw it on one of the Gawker sites. So jealous of your skills.
