I'm about to build a case to house the RPi, a USB hub and some other parts like a bare PS3 Eye board. I'm using stripboards with continous lanes and having concerns about the POSSIBILITY of shorting things if I turn the copper plated side inwards. Personally I don't think this will happen, but as I'm no electric engineer I don't know if there are other reasons to turn the copper plated side inwards or outwards.
One thing is for sure: I won't let the bottomside of the RPi touch those lanes ofcourse, there will be a 5mm gap.
If I turn the copperplated side outwards, this could look quite nice maybe.
Any recommendations for me?
You may ask why I would use stripboards for this? I don't know, just happen to have many of them (bought them cheap some years ago), and seems like noone used them like this yet.

Here are the first pictures, haven't glued it yet. Maybe I will just put heavy rubberbands to hold it together. But actually I think I will glue it with hot glue. What Do you think, looks nice hu?
Oh yeah, and the holes for the connectors are not made yet... work in progress.
It's very tall because I wanted to use the full height of the stripboard as I still don't know what I will stuff in there yet beside from those 3 mentioned. Maybe I should fit the power adapter in there too?

That's a wacky idea...
Unfortunately I've noticed with stripboard the copper usually goes a bit dull with age, especially if handled by the fingers.
But having the copper facing in will be fine, of course you'll have some PCB standoffs or something inside.
Finally - my real reason for replying - with the copper inside, you could solder lots of LEDs on the outside for the gratuitous flashing light look. Like a dwarf version of those "Connection machines" which were fashionable in the nineties.
Could of course solder other standard components on the outside too, like connectors or pushbuttons. Just an idea. Think of a Rubik's Cube or something...

Pity you haven't made it cube-shaped ... RGB LEDs, in 3x3 on each side, use your mouse to virtually twist, and the LEDs change colour to suit ...Ravenous wrote:That's a wacky idea...

I like corduroy.
I also thought that it could be good for screening - it also has built-in ventilation and is easily shaped.
