Has anyone found a bare IMX219 camera module (like the one used on the camera module) that will work with the pi compute module. While I am aware that the standard pi needs the crypto ID chip I believe the compute module doesn't have this restriction so am looking to put the camera directly on the PCB that holds the compute module.
For anyone interested in the use-case. I am involved with an educational robotics charity (http://www.studentrobotics.org) where teams of sixth-form students build and design fully autonomous robots over a 6 month competition. We are looking at replacing the current webcam based vision system we give teams with an integrated unit containing a camera module and a pi compute module to do the vision processing and report back processed information over USB.
Re: bare camera modules for use with compute module
You are corect that the CM does not need the cryto chip. Or at least, that is the plan. Not sure anyone has tried it!scorpia wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 11:17 amHas anyone found a bare IMX219 camera module (like the one used on the camera module) that will work with the pi compute module. Re: bare camera modules for use with compute module
I added the support, so tried it by artificially setting the I2C address for the crypto chip incorrectly.
Sorry, I can't directly help on suppliers of IMX219 though.
For OV5647 I know Sunny Optical took the Omnivision silicon and packaged it with the lens and plastics. Googling for "Sunny IMX219" produces a number of hits to the typical Chinese bizarres seemingly selling it. I would suggest you looked at www.sunnyoptical.com, but only if you can read Chinese!
