Audio/Video connector oxidized
Anyone have same problem?

I'm not bothered. I either run it headless or with HDMI.

Can you scrape the contacts inside?
like with a Dremel bit?

i have the same problem on all of my raspberry pi 3bs. seems to only take 1 year or so.

All my pies have this connector corroded but my 3b+ just ain't having it. They are corroded that much that they fail.

also try DeoxIT 5% Spray Contact Cleaner,i use it to clean vintage stereos from 60/70's

It isn't "corrosion" it is oxidation of the cadmium plating, and is quite normal (and harmless).

If you use it it should work, but attempting to "clean" is likely to do more harm than good.

Corrosion *is* oxidation. And after some googling, I'm rather surprised to find that it is still legal to use cadmium in electronic products, as long as it is below 0.01% or 100ppm by weight. Cadmium is certainly *not* harmless.

On reflection, it probably is - the fact remains the discolouration (which is common) does not seem to affect performance, and does not warrant drastic removal action. Simply inserting and removing a plug should be sufficient.

I believe, like the other ports on the Pi, it is just steel.

If it were regular steel it would rust. It for sure is not stainless steel.

It may well be steel but plated with something. And what that is is the question here.

Probably spring steel coated with silver.

When I was in OBs, we had a rather large number of ¼" jacks - 19" racks full of them.
As you can imagine, the first week in June on the Epsom Downs is not famous for its weather, and anything that could corrode would.

The jack plugs were I believe brass which got cleaned with wire wool. The sockets were cleaned with a plug-shaped device that was mildly abrasive.
