My Super Nintendo Pi is about done

Fri Oct 19, 2012 8:04 pm

Hey guys! Check out my build project:

Build Log: http://imgur.com/a/qhxfh
Video Demo: http://youtu.be/MocIb-Ya8ms

Everything seems to be running smooth, except for sound (it works in some games for a while, then stops. It works in a bunch of NES games, and I haven't tried MAME yet). I tried the SDL drivers, but this slows down the games too much for me. I would rather just listen to some ocremix.org tunes while I game, and not lose the FPS. I want to give a big thanks to everybody that made this possible. Petrockblog, Toad King, Aloshi and the likes.

The power button switch turns the system on and off, and the reset switch is wired up to a Teensy (http://www.pjrc.com/teensy/) which acts as a one-button keyboard. When the reset switch is pressed, it exits the emulator and goes back to the EmulationStation game selector (so the ROM gets dumped with the save files still in tact). The entire system is operable without a keyboard or mouse.

Next up, I'm going to work on getting a prettier menu for EmulationStation, I know Aloshi has been working on that. Hopefully better sound support will come soon, but it will take the work of somebody far smarter than I.

Very nice, do you think that you could make a tutorial? there is a pi contest on Instructables right now and i think that you could win some prizes with this. I am also trying to do something like this except i would like to mount my pi on a 7in screen and splice it so that i can still hook it up to a tv.

Thanks -Jared B.

Job well done! I'm putting mine in an NES Console, but it's going to just be a web server. But I like that, that is awesome!!!
