A good use of the Pi, in my opinion, is as part of a quarantine program: If you already test positive or are exhibiting symptoms stay home, rest and do cool stuff with a Raspberry Pi. Although there are many problems which can't be solved by money, maybe some portion of the billions allocated by politicians to help fight the epidemic could be spent on single-board computers that allow more people to work from home.

Not sure "saving yourself" is the correct phrase, but at least you are not prompting crystal therapy or cows urine. The comments on that video are sad though - loads of people not believing the WHO is a recipe for disaster.

The method for reducing infection are clear, thorough handwashing, isolation etc.

In other news, the majority of Pi Trading will be working from home for the next few weeks in order to prevent possible transmission. We hope to maintain normal service, but there may be delays where we need access to equipment we don't have at home.

Normal service will be resumed as soon as possible.

Take care of yourselves. No Pi project (that I know of, so far) is worth dying for--or even becoming seriously ill over.

Where I live (California), the state governor has called for all those over 65 to self-isolate. That includes me (71) and my wife (77). Essential shopping will still have to be done (hasn't gotten *that* bad where I live...yet).

Fortunately for my state of mind, I have a number of things to do that will keep me occupied, including setting up three Pi4B4s with root on SSDs (HP S600 120GB, $30 each) and an RTC, all running my first foray into MariaDB (already familiar with MySQL, so no serious issues).

Nobody I know infected but a close family member is deeply embedded in the whole epidemic abatement aspect. I'm told the issue is not so much saving yourself but rather minimize killing off grandparents.

She brought that up some time ago, long before WHO, so I'm inclined to pay attention. Mayor of NY today made similar statement. Millennial nonchalance and partying may end up being the real killer. Italy 2.0?

Seems would have been a lot better off doing now instead of then. Claims of "It's A Hoax!" and "It Will pass Quickly, WHOOOOSH!" don't help. Virus don't always accommodate Don't Worry...Be Happy philosophy.

While it is easy to point fingers, this is not the finger-pointing thread, but instead a discussion of how the spread of a non-computer-related virus relates to users of the Raspberry Pi.

From my point of view, the quarantines provide a framework to refine work from home and distance learning technologies that could turn out to be better ways of doing things even when no epidemic is in progress. To do so, however, requires affordable computers in the home. As the Raspberry Pi is remarkably affordable, it appears well suited to play a significant role in telecommuting, not to mention other work from home activities.

Maybe a Raspberry Pi powered robot that made and delivered pizza would also be a good idea, though more difficult.

Nor is it the finger pointing forum. If you want that go to Facebook or Twitter or whatever.

There are people who are facing real problems and stress due to this, and maybe doing something with their PI can provide some relief or at lest something else to focus on for a while. They don't come here to see the same stuff as is all over the news and social media.

Lets leave coverage and debate of the situation to the news/social media and concentrate on the things we do well here, helping each other with our technology projects.

Exactly. I have several members of my family now that have symptoms. My wife (especially) and myself are in "vulnerable" categories. We're both getting ready to "lock down" for the next few months and have cancelled plans for visiting relatives, including no longer going to see our son for his 24th birthday.

I am so sorry to hear that.
