Re: The Raspberry Pi 400 thread!

The other meanwhile: I have not even seen ethernet used in home or office for years. Nobody wants those big clunky cables around the place anymore when they can use WiFi instead. ???? I use wired ethernet a lot at home, and we use it almost exclusively in the office for docking stations and Pi's. W...

Re: The Raspberry Pi 400 thread!

I hope to add the 400 to my collection of all my other Pis eventually, it's a stunning bit of kit. Not me, though I agree it seems stunning. I plan to get a starter kit and make sure it immediately gets to a friend teaching nearby. The 400 looks perfect for many of their classroom ideas. The book w...

Re: The Raspberry Pi 400 thread!

I don't remember demanding anything? It's far beyond my intellect or ability to use a compute model to build my own version. If they want to make an 8GB model they will, if they don't they won't. As James said, it's probably not coming anytime soon. If people never asked for upgrades we'd all still...

Re: The Raspberry Pi 400 thread!

Awesome bit of kit - I've been watching the teardown/benchmark videos with glee. I really want to get one but I'm holding out for an 8GB model as alas, I need several electron apps for productivity (slack/discord/vs code etc.) and they tend to munch on your RAM no matter what OS you use. Some form ...

Lots of noise on pi cam v2

Hi All, I've recently been following the handy guides to configure the pi zero as a usb web cam with a pi camera v2 - a big thanks to everybody for cracking that, mine is mostly working great! The only problem left appears to be that the camera UVC video stream is really noisy, even in a room with l...

Re: Connecting a (small) speaker to a rpi zw

I've used the speaker phat before for a homebrew alexa build: https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/speaker-phat The audio is a little tinny, but it works. I used a usb mic with the usb shim too. https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/mini-usb-microphone https://thepihut.com/products/usb-to-microusb-otg-co...

I was a little confused about the two mini HDMI ports vs one full size one,
FYI they are micro HDMI not mini HDMI.
PeterO
That's nothing. Someone in a previous post said HTML port.
Oh dear. I'm never living this one down am I?

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion

When I woke up on announcment day I thought it was another April fools. You've added pretty much every improvement I've wanted for years - well done all, no idea how you pulled it off at the same price point. I was a little confused about the two mini micro (thanks Peter!) HDMI ports vs one full siz...

Re: System crashed over weekend, but syslog missing a week's worth of logs?

Thanks for the heads up. It's a shame systemd appears to have such negative impacts on basic logging functionality but if I can safely assume my server isn't compromised I'll bring it back up.

Fingers crossed we get a Devuan based raspbian/armbian option someday...

Re: System crashed over weekend, but syslog missing a week's worth of logs?

Sorry, I should have said I am SSHing in as root and journalctl doesn't reveal anything either :(

Is there any way to switch back to the old, pre-systemd way of logging or an alternative to avoid this in future?

Thanks.

System crashed over weekend, but syslog missing a week's worth of logs?

Hey all, I'm trying to debug an issue I've had over the weekend with my OpenMediaVault home server running on my pi via Armbian. Last time I used it was on saturday but this morning I noticed my discord bots that run on it weren't up. On my home network I noticed it wasn't connected to the router so...

Re: Pi Camera v2 image quality question

I had this same problem with MOTIONEYE when I tried to install motioneye on a pre-installed debian OS. When I used the motioneye's all-in-one ISO that is ready to go, the PI2 camera video is fine. But, like yours, when I try to do it manually, the image are over exposed / washed out like that. I co...

Re: Pi Camera v2 image quality question

You should not view an 8MP image at 100% and expect the kind of crisply defined edges from the v2 camera you'd get from a DSLR. That said, your particular device may well not be in optimal focus. All of the first v2 cameras produced seemed to be adjusted like a "selfie" camera, to work be...

What are you using to take the pictures? Does raspistill produce decent images? I am using motion eye ( I believe it uses MMAL?). Raspistill produces better pictures but not brilliant ones, as you can see in this full res sample: https://i.imgur.com/GctPr2Q.jpg https://i.imgur.com/GctPr2Q.jpg That ...

I've had to host this elsewhere due to size restrictions - hopefully you can see what I mean about the oversaturation in daylight. This one is less blurry but if you look at the strap on the back of the man in the middle you can see what I mean. Actually, I see two different issues: 1. blown highli...

Re: Pi Camera v2 image quality question

This picture is too small to tell if it's blurry or not (and why). Could you post a full size image? In the meantime, I seem to notice a focus issue: distant objects are sharper than near subjects. I think the lens is focused at infinity by default; if your main usage consists in capturing scenes a...

Pi Camera v2 image quality question

Hi all, I recently recieved a Pi Camera V2 for Christmas and have been using it mostly with motion/motioneye. With the release of the Pi Zero W and the really neat camera case with it I have been trying it more and more out of the house but I have a few questions regarding image quality. Is it norma...

Re: Asus Tinker board

I like the idea of it (and the fact the Pi B+ layout appears to be a format/standard now as it's so good) but I worry that like other pi clones with hardware from less open manufacturers I worry support will be terrible. If you buy a Pi and an official Pi add on/HAT everything just works, and the su...

Re: Is UV4L the best way to steam to the web?

I have tried both uv4l and motion/motioneye and sadly, neither fit my needs. I have a raspberry pi zero running raspbian and a RPi v2 camera. I need video+audio streaming to a remote server (like Youtube Live) over wifi. Uv4l: webRTC is not supported on Zeros. Mjpeg doesn't support audio streaming....
