Re: STICKY - How to upgrade a Buster image to Bullseye

Still using openbox as a window manager, not entirely sure how to get it to use mutter. Any suggestions? Not sure if I mix it up with the screen driver but some features will only be offered to Pi‘s with at least 2 GB of RAM - so plenty of older models won’t get it. Just read the release note blog ...

Re: STICKY - How to upgrade a Buster image to Bullseye

It doesn't run as a systemd service. Add this to /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart: @/usr/lib/notification-daemon/notification-daemon Thanks, I will give it a try. Not sure how to test this actually... My LXDE autostart file now contains (just in case something else is missing here - maybe someb...

Re: STICKY - How to upgrade a Buster image to Bullseye

Ok, I worked this out. Just in case it helps anyone else - notification-daemon needed adding to autostart. Did NOT work for me. Upgraded from Buster to Bullseye on a Pi 2 hardware. "notification-daemon" wasn´t even installed . Installed it manually using "sudo apt install notificatio...

Re: STICKY - How to upgrade a Buster image to Bullseye

The only minor issue I've seen so far is that the "Notifications" panel does not appear, and I can't see it in the list to add it. Does anybody know the name of the package so I can install it manually? Ok, I worked this out. Just in case it helps anyone else - notification-daemon needed ...

Re: GUI: can´t use title bar including buttons anymore

That worked, thank you. Simple but produced a lot of rework because it reset really everything, including taskbar... But it´s strange because: The system affected (Pi #1) was installed a few years ago and the OS (Raspbian) constantly updated (Wheezy / Jessie / Stretch / Buster). The look of the GUI ...

GUI: can´t use title bar including buttons anymore

Hi, I don´t know since when or why but: doesn´t matter which way (VNC, RDP, local/console) or which application (all affected!) I can´t use the title bar anymore. Nothing works: drag&drop, minimize, maximize, close, the whole header is unresponsive: title bar marked.png OpenBox settings seem to ...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Heatsink vs Fan vs Flirc Case

After overclocking the Pi 4 4GB for testing purposes to 1.75 GHz ARM frequency and running stable for a few days I set it to 2.0 GHz. Stressberry benchmarks will follow in a few days, only notes so far: - idle temperature with the DLIRC case is about 1 to 3 degrees Celsius higher than with stock clo...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Heatsink vs Fan vs Flirc Case

I've got to wonder how much these metal cases affect WiFi and Bluetooth performance? Great question. Did no before/after test but when switching my mediacenter hardware from Pi 2 to Pi 3 B+ (Pi 2 with external WiFi dongle, Pi 3 B+ with FLIRC case) the WiFi signal was significantly worse than with t...

Dude, just run a Stressberry benchmark. Your information like „watching YT videos temp. = xx degrees“ is not really comparable.

Nice setup anyway. What about the fan noise?

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Heatsink vs Fan vs Flirc Case

For me the FLIRC case is doing a really good job on the Pi 4. See stressberry comparison below. stressberry_Pi4(NoCase)vs.Pi4(FLIRCcase).png And if you wanna see the difference from a Pi 3 B+ in a FLIRC case ( green line) to the Pi 4 in the FLIRC case ( orange line): stressberry_Pi3B+vs.Pi4(NoCase)v...

Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.19

Man I´ve gone like crazy (like the Pi 3 B+ did the last months)! Spent sooooo much time on this, really DAYS, coming to conclusion: it must be a memory leak and very likely something in the kernel. rpi-update finally brought me here, seeing others suffering the same. So: Finally Kernel v4.19.30 seem...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 Zram optimisation

zram-swap-config works good. Basic issue are RAM related, mostly OOM_REAPER killing processes. Didn’t happen a few weals ago, happened almost silently. Unfortunately zram helps a bit (it increases the timespan until OOM_REAPER kicks in) but the basic issue remains :-((((((((

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

Hi there, I´m back with my issue which basically is the same. To remember ( details here ): kswapd0 is going crazy on a regular basis. Updates: I think I found the trigger for that: a cron job (nextcloud) triggers this behaviour, cause it´s pretty RAM intensive What I did some time ago was editing t...

Re: Losing connection

Hi there, I´m very lucky a google search on "lan78xx 1-1.1.1:1.0 eth0: kevent 0 may have been dropped" brought me to this topic. My Pi 3 B+ suffers from this error for months. Developers on Github really don´t care about this. I think my setup is pretty similar; I have some HDDs attached t...

Same for me. I tracked down a lot of issues to the "page allocation stalls for xxx" messages in kern.log.

Did you or anyone manage to fix this?!?

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

I´m trying with a different hardware (I guess my 3rd or 4th Pi 3 B+... what a pity) with same settings and same system (microSDXC) etc. to rule out any possible hardware cause. I think within 7 to 10 days I know if it´s a hardware of software thing.

I think I "fixed" it by reverting the last change and enabling swapping again. Pi´s running for more than 6 days now (which is more than x2 the time it did before with those freeze/lock indicated reboots). Not 100 % sure system is running stable without any temporary issues or "only a...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

As I wrote several times: I sorted that clocking out already (intensively), Pi runs stable without USB HDDs attached. It‘s a RAM/swapping/USB issue, let‘s focus on that.
