Re: Box86 - Linux Userspace x86 Emulator

Just to note, Box86 0.2.4 has been released, with many speed and stability improvements.
Also, Box64 0.1.6 (https://github.com/ptitSeb/box64), for those using a 64bits OS, that had many improvements too (games like RimWorld, Starbound or HollowKnight are playable with it).

I have found the issue and pushed a fix. Update box64 and you should be good to go.

Re: How to run the x86_64 build of Zoom on a Raspberry Pi 400.

It seems there is a regression, introduce by the wrapping of gtk libs  .
I'll try to fix that. In the mean time, you can continue to use x86_64 version of gtk libs by using "BOX64_NOGTK=1" env. var.

So use:

Code: Select all

BOX64_NOGTK=1 BOX64_LD_LIBRARY_PATH=./:./x64_libs ./ZoomLauncher

Re: WINE Alternative?

Okay, just finished working, so now I'm ready to try out getting WINE from WineHQ installed. But before I do, is there any way I could compile wine64 for Box64 so I can run 64-bit Windows apps as well as 32-bit ones? Use this https://www.playonlinux.com/wine/binaries/phoenicis/upstream-linux-amd64/...

Re: DirectX through Box86/Wine?

I don't know what you try to run, but check microLinux, PILabs, The Byteman and NicoD Youtubes channels, they did run a lot of windows games. I did run a few things myself too on the Pi. Check the box86-compatibility-list repo also, there are a few windows game there too. Tried Sonic CD, Lemmings 2...

Re: x86 emulator

There is only qemu-system I guess on the Pi. Sorry for me getting mad about Box86, I guess actually what I should've gotten mad about was Wine not working (because actually I've gotten a lot working in Box86, just Box86+Wine not really). You still do great work on Box86/64! It's WINE that needs mor...

Re: DirectX through Box86/Wine?

Your wineprefix may be broken. Try to start a new one (save ~/.wine and remove the folder). All Wine parameter will be lost, but may need to re-start clean.

Re: DirectX through Box86/Wine?

Just tried installing the 32-bit Mesa drivers, but strangely enough I already had the 32-bit installed. Is there anything I need to do in Winetricks to make it use DirectX -> OpenGL instead of DirectX -> Vulkan? Because after using BOX86_LOG=1 it looks like it's using the DirectX -> Vulkan for some...

Re: DirectX through Box86/Wine?

Wine have a internal Direct3D -> OpenGL wrapper. So yes, you need a working OpenGL driver to have DirectX/D3D games running. Also, some old games may want to use 8bits or 16bits fullscreen, that may not work fine. In that cas, use virtual desktop. On way is to go to winecfg and select it. Another w...

Re: Box86 - Linux Userspace x86 Emulator

I have a question, I haven't entirely got Steam up and running, it can only update. I'm supposed to be able to use arm libs, right? Is it because I'm using Ubuntu? I have disabled the use of wrapped library for gtk when steam is detected. This is to try get steam more stable on box86. I hvaen't tri...

Re: FTL, RPi4, 64-bit Ubuntu

Nice article! I think both install and start.sh can be fooled with a custom "uname" script in place of the regular one that output "x86_64" when "uname -m" is run. I haven't really experimented with this, but I'm prety sure something like this could work: create a file ...

Re: How to install/play Dwarf Fortress on Pi4 B?

dwarf-fortress-data is architecture independant, so it's on the repo. But indeed it's useless without the main program. Note that the 32bits x86 version of dwarf-fortress can be run with box86... Do you know when the 64-bit box64 will be available for general use and testing? It's done, the repo is...

Thank you for your benchmark. I'm not familiar with this PieBench. It's heavy on floating point? box86 doesn't not work with statically linked binary.
