Not really.
As I said, it is distribution agnostic. I never said it is arcitecture agnostic.
You can run the same Snap/Appimage/Flatpak on Debian/Ubuntu/Centos/Arch/Fedora/Rhel/Alpine/whatever, as long as it runs a linux kernel.

Re: As a user do you like Appimage, Snap or Flatpack at all?

Snap, Appimage and Flatpak are distribution agnostic. Meaning you can use them on (almost) any Linux distribution. I hav never used Snap, but Appimage is kind of like a statically built binary, it brings all dependencies with it. And that makes it quite large. It also doesn't allow for sharing depen...

Re: As a user do you like Appimage, Snap or Flatpack at all?

I use Flatpak for a few things where the debian repository either only has old versions or none at all. e.g. Nextcloud-desktop, FreeCAD, KiCAD, OpenTTD, ... I'm even repackaging the Cura Appimage into Flatpak because I don't like to run Appimages. I'll probably tdo the same for pulseview, which in o...

Re: h264_v4l2m2m or h264_omx swap field order

I now tried with ffmpeg 4.3 built from source, but now I have the problem that ffmpeg spams with All capture buffers returned to userspace. Increase num_capture_buffers to prevent device deadlock or dropped packets/frames. and adding -num_capture_buffers 16 does not change anything. for reference se...

Re: h264_v4l2m2m or h264_omx swap field order

Hmm, I mean it kind of does deinterlace, just with the wrong field order. Any way to fix that in the firmware?

What about the green output of h264_v4l2m2m?

h264_v4l2m2m or h264_omx swap field order

Hello, I'm trying to use ffmpeg to transcode from SD DVB transport stream which is mpeg2 interlaced to h264 using RPi0 hardware encoding, but the field order is swapped in the output. The flags that correct that and work with libx264 (-flags ildct+ilme) have no effect for h264_omx or h264_v4l2m2m th...

Re: Running Zoom on RPi: made easy with Pi-Apps - the new RPi app store

I think the core issue was your non-english locale. My pkg-install script uses apt's "these NEW packages will be installed:" and "X to remove" messages to function properly. It has to find those 2 phrases in order to detect which packages will be installed. But with your Spanish...

Re: Any "virtualization" solution for RPI4?

Read up on systemd-nspawn. I haven't used it on a Pi yet, but Sakaki's 64-bit userland on 32-bit userland with 64-bit kernel used it, so it should work. With nspawn you can use any valid root file system structure (e.g. debootstrapped or sd card from another pi), compatible with the running kernel. ...

Re: Fail to boot from M.2 SATA via USB (blinking cursor)

I suspect it's not the cable alone, but a combination of marginal cable and slightly overloaded USB port which causes the Voltage to dip below a threshold. If you'd used the same cable and SSD on a PC it would probably have been fine.

Re: Password stops working next day - fresh install

Welcome to the forum. Did you change the default password? Do you have the SSH port open to the internet? If you are still using the default password and have ssh open to the internet then your raspberry has most likely been taken over by a bot net or a hacker. You should change the password before ...

Re: "forking" service does not work if SSH disconnects

Why do you use "forking" and not "simple" and start the python script directly from systemd? As far as I know, a user service is only started when a user logs in. If you want to run a service as a non-root user, then set the user attribute in the unit file and run it as a system ...

I've been very happy with JOE for the last few years. It's more powerful than nano, but far less complicated than emacs.
I'm even using it almost exclusively on my PC in a shell, even logged into a GUI session. :shrugs:

Re: VLC UI too big on screen

The problem here is that VLC uses the DPI of the screen to adapt the size of the buttons. This is not a Raspberry specific problem. My 24" monitor on my laptop is detected as 7" and has huge buttons in VLC as well. This has something to do with the EDID data of the display Try setting QT_A...

Re: unable to add g_cdc or g_ether to initramfs

You need to add additional modules to /etc/initramfs-tools/modules (not /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/modules). You might be onto something there. I'll have a look tonight where I put the module names, but it looks like it's in /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/modules. Thanks for the heads-up Aydan

@Aydan: The proposed method also results in a boot partition which still lacks the RPi4 specifics. True, but you can update this card to the current level which is Pi4 compatible, because the boot partition is big enough. As I said before, I did this when upgrading from Jessie to Stretch. A test using gparted showed the problem which has been reported multiple times: gparted can shrink and move the root partition (ext4), but it cannot increase the size of the boot partition (fat32). This can be circumvented by copying the /boot files off the boot partition and after resizing (or del...
