Re: Quake and Quake III, but not Quake II?

Just tried the Vulkan version of yQuake2 on a RPi4 and got the following error: ...found 1 Vulkan-capable device(s) Could not find a suitable physical device! R_InitContext() - could not initialize Vulkan! R_SetMode() - invalid mode setting mode 4: 640 480 Shutting down Vulkan Real display mode: 800...

Re: Script to build development Vulkan driver and demos

Just tried this out, has a small issue with the version of meson not being correct (had to manually update it) but all working well.

I'm getting 113fps on the sphericalenvmapping example, and 575fps on gears. Looks great!

I'm overclocked to 2ghz CPU and 700mhz GPU

Vulkan based vkQuake? https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=277779 I literally just found Yamagi Quake 2 has a Vulkan branch: https://github.com/yquake2/yquake2/tree/ref_vk I don't have a RPi3 free to test this with the new Vulkan driver, and there's not a Vulkan driver for RP...

Re: Quake and Quake III, but not Quake II?

Hi Guys, i followed spidey57 description and got Quake II running with OpenGL_es. It was running ok... if any lighting was on the screen it started dropping the framerate to much to be playable. The i discovered jdonalds thread about the newest branch in normal gl. I downloaded the github repo. Fol...

Sorry for going a little off topic, but does anybody know if Snappy Ubuntu Core was compiled for ARMv7 and ARMHF like this release?

3rd USB by removing ethernet

Not sure if this is the right forum, but it seemed to fit best! I was wondering if it's possible to remove the Ethernet socket to get a 3rd USB interface? I believe that the Ethernet port runs off the integrated USB hub in the model B and it probably is possible, but I'm wondering if it's physically...

You probably won't need a crossover cable, most (if not all) modern laptops will do the crossing for you with a standard cable.

My second Raspberry Pi for sale

Hi All, I've decided to sell my second RasPi from RS: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110891666787 Like most early adopters I purchased one from both Farnell and RS, and the one from RS arrived on Friday. I don't need the second so I've decided to sell it with 100% of the sa...

Re: Create Custom Boot Logo

Splashy requires DirectFB, which hasn't been ported to the RasPi yet, but the DirectFB team are working on it (so they say!)

EDIT: I may actually be wrong, I could've sworn I read that somewhere - I did try and install it on my Pi but couldn't (for a reason I can't remember)

Re: Epetition to waive VAT on RPi

My very, very dear friend Oggie , who died in 2007, was the lead developer on the e-petitions website. The last time I saw him, a couple of days before he died, he was ripping his (plentiful) hair out over the amount of frivolous bullshit people were posting to it; I specifically remember him menti...

Re: Epetition to waive VAT on RPi

@MattPurland: As I've pointed out, it's not that simple. They pay VAT and then claim it back on some things. Organising something with the distributors requires more organisation effort than can be reasonably requested from individial schools. But, I'm more interested in getting a cheaper RPi into ...

Re: Epetition to waive VAT on RPi

This seems rather pointless to me, as consumers we should be paying VAT, and if schools don't pay VAT then that's for them to sort out with the distributors (which they can do).

Or am I missing something here?

Re: My RasPi running off AAA batteries

That's correct, the auction is selling 4 batteries, so 2 parallel sets in series. I might try it with just the 2 in series to see how long it'll last. No doubt they're not actually 5000mah, but they should be close The AAAs I'm using seem to die quite quick, but I think that's down to the USB hub I'...

Re: My RasPi running off AAA batteries

I looked into other batteries including lithium ion and polymer, but I decided to go with batteries that could easily be replaced if they died. It's hard to say without doing proper measurements but I think the AAAs I'm using last about an hour with average use so I definitely need to look at someth...

Re: My RasPi running off AAA batteries

FYI, here's one for £1.39! This also takes a minimum voltage of 4.5v and an output of 2-3 amps, which should be a lot easier to work with! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LM2596-DC-DC-Step-Down-CC-CV-Adjustable-Power-Supply-Module-akf-/160782943700?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Test_Measurement_Equipment_ET&ha...

Re: My RasPi running off AAA batteries

The screen isn't running off the batteries as it needs 12v, I'm gonna rip it open and see if it can be powered from 5v (it'll have a regulator in there somewhere which I can hopefully bypass).

I might look into using higher capacity batteries, I get the feeling the AAAs won't last too long
