Rotary encoder overlay - cant use the switch

I have a rotary encoder setup as device in config.txt:

Code: Select all

dtoverlay=rotary-encoder,pin_a=18,pin_b=17,relative_axis=1,steps-per-period=1
The knob works ok with evtest and python programs, but i cant get the switch to work. Is it supposed to work or not?

Re: Moving from breadboard to next level and build a prototype

The process that I follow is very much like what LTolledo has shown. Once I get things working on a proto board, I'll carefully draw out the schematic. Not only does this document what I've done for future reference, but then I'll build off of it, because I sometimes need the proto board parts for ...

Re: Moving from breadboard to next level and build a prototype

Because I've been soldering "things" for several decades I rarely (if ever) have used "plug-in" breadboards and tend to use solderable "stripboard" , "proto-boards" and pi-specific breadboard-like pcb's. FWIW, you may find the examples I've posted (some) deta...

Re: Moving from breadboard to next level and build a prototype

Yes it is an one off (or maybe i can build a couple for some friends). I sometimes use these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07ZV8BKNF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They allow you to solder your DuPont cables into exactly the same position as they are in the breadboard. Yo...

Moving from breadboard to next level and build a prototype

I have completed my first PI project. It is rather simple consisting of: 6 LEDS, 1 Buzzer, 3 Push Buttons , one Rotary Encoder and one LCD 2x16. It communicates over the network a PC that runs Microsoft Flight simulator and serves like a general purpose panel. I am completely noob when it comes to t...

Using Scratch with Waveshare Alphabot pi robot

I am trying to find out if and how i could use Scratch to control Waveshare's Alphabot kit with a PI4 I want to be used as an entry level robotics training for kids 8-10 that already manage standard Scratch. Unfortunately they are not ready yet for python. Any advice would be appreciated. Link: http...

PI4 Problems with Philips TV

PI4 with original power supply and original hdmi 1m cable. Eliminated faulty cable and power supply by using second set of each. Pi4 works perfectly fine when connected to my 2 DELL monitors. I think the problem lies with my Philips TV. Model is 55PUS7304. The problem started when i tried the weekly...

Re: Issue with static IP on PI4

I dont see why it wouldn't work. Unless that address is already in use (dhcpcd checks for that IIRC), a firewall is blocking, or there is some setup issue on the Pi. On the Pi itself you could check "ip route", "ip link" and "ip address" and see if all is correct. Inst...

Issue with static IP on PI4

Most probably its an internal router issue but i would like to verify that. When my PI is on DHCP it works fine. As soon as i change to static configuration the situation is erratic: For some time it works, then it stops. The IP settings are there but i cant even ping the default gateway. From all o...

Sense HAT + PIR

I want to start making my pi communicate with the outside world. I have a PI 2 + camera module. I am thinking of getting a sense HAT, and a PIR sensor and try to make a room monitoring project. If i mount the sense hat , how i will connect the PIR sensor? Can i do it on top of the HAT? I am a noob o...

Re: Getting not enough space on NTFS drive with enough free

Believe me....Try to copy via samba or try to FTP a file that its total size is MORE than the free space on your SD and you will get the error... You did not mention samba in your original post! If you share a directory tree using tools or protocols that do not understand mount points, then it is n...

Re: Getting not enough space on NTFS drive with enough free

I think the problem origin was the /media mounting point for automount.

I added the disk to /etc/fstab and mounted under /mnt..

Now it sems that i can copy as many files as i want.

It was like pi thought that /media free space is the SD card free space...

Getting not enough space on NTFS drive with enough free spac

I am trying to copy 15Gb of files to me /media/externaldrive . The external drive is a NTFS disk with enough available free space. I tried to copy the files one by one and they are copied... My SD card has around ~5GB available space. Is there a chance that every given time i need the required space...
