Re: Seeking interest and support in a game designed for Rpi

Been a while, went on Honeymoon for a few weeks and also busy at work but I'm putting as many hours as I can in... things are progressing. Can't deny there's a lot of bug hunting and fixing going on though but that last 10% of a project is 90% of the total work :D

back to cockpits, strangly I seem to have left that test code half done, so when I came back to it to fully incorporate it into gameplay it didnt' work at all... had to fix a few things but aside from one obvious (to me at least ) error, cockpits are back . https://www.patreon.com/posts/revisiting-o...

Re: Seeking interest and support in a game designed for Rpi

I just had a nasty bug that appreared to be based on Bullet physics doing something odd... but in fact like most bugs, it was me.. I'd cocked up. In my movement maths, there's a boids system to allow groups of ships to fly closely, and occasionlally when a ship was isolated it would throw a NaN back...

Re: Seeking interest and support in a game designed for Rpi

there's going to be a lot more to this game than just explosions and spaceships. since the 1st days when I was setting up and working on the galaxy views, different systems have been interacting to create different gameplay modes and conditions. I've been focused so much in the last year or so on th...

Re: Error: GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY in glTexImage

Anyone know for sure?
it certainly looks like the only way to get the memory back is to trash the context and make a new one but thats a rather ugly looking process.

Re: Seeking interest and support in a game designed for Rpi

Menus with speech and sound really pop out, but I do have to fix quite a few things on the menus which have not really been touched in months, so lots of creeping little bugs have snuck in.

Re: Seeking interest and support in a game designed for Rpi

yeah very much, without sound you don't get a sense of involvement or emotion in the game. But it is very much a specialist skill which I don't really have, this is a journeyman approach to it, its functional though so I'm pleased with it. I do have a Music Coding specialist at work I can have a cha...

Re: Seeking interest and support in a game designed for Rpi

Re: Seeking interest and support in a game designed for Rpi

needed to make some significant changes to the sound manager, the old one turned out to be less reliable when I wanted to change streams or stop them, so I added some new content to make filestream please multi stream content its still a WIP as it needs to be put on a thread to avoid stoppages when ...

Re: Open Source BareMetal OpenGLES lib?

I'm using the Mesa GLES libs and working at 3.1 level with some 3.2 extension and the OS's I/O thats about as close to the metal as I want to be :D Hard coding the system is far too much work and also has a high risk of platform deviation that I don't want to have to worry about. I'd have to build d...

Error: GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY in glTexImage

Not totally unexpectedly I have hit a few issues with the size and number of textures in my project...I am using a lot, but now I'm starting to really push the limits. But I have (I think) been quite careful to delete textures and bufffers when I am done with them, or need to reset for a new graphic...

Re: Seeking interest and support in a game designed for Rpi

Baking is mostly for lighting content, which is more relevent to interior style scenes, where you cast shadows, I don't really need shadows in my game and though there are points where you can see that there "should" be a shadow, or the light "should" be occluded I don't worry to...

Re: Seeking interest and support in a game designed for Rpi

Models in themselves are not machine specific, so as long as you have a reasonable art package you can certainly use the Rpi to make models for any outlet. I mostly buy from Unity, CGTrader and TurboSquid and the range of quality is pretty extreme, I find almost all of MSGDI's models to be usable on...

Re: Seeking interest and support in a game designed for Rpi

yup, most of these models are from a guy who goes by the name of MSGDI and sells his content on the Unity store, I've had to twiddle a bit to get them to be useful for a Pi but they work pretty well most of the time. His work isn't free, I had to buy it, but its reasonably priced and I was lucky to ...

Amazing, I don't know how anyone has the patience for that level of detail.
ha, yeah, well it takes a certain level of crazy to do game coding, a lot of very very small steps some of them backward on a very long journey..but its worth it when you get to the end.

Re: Seeking interest and support in a game designed for Rpi

No its openGLES3.1 with some 3.2 extensions..

Im not fully up to speed on Vulkan, but might make my next project a learning project for it. For now this is more than enough. Im not yet convinced Vulkan offers anything more than ES3.1 gives me at this point.

Re: Seeking interest and support in a game designed for Rpi

Discovered a few issues with the parsing of the init files... not hard to fix but a little time consuming.. but done now. Just the flyby and intro text/speech needed to explain the mission and we can move on the game narrative files that will contol the AI as the game/mission progresses Im getting a...

Re: Seeking interest and support in a game designed for Rpi

Right.... we're almost ready..... its been a trip, but I think....think... all the main techy bits are done.. barring bugs. Its time to set up gameplay missions and objectives...which meant stepping back in time a bit to add some content to the menus which hadn't been looked at for a while .....and ...

No,Im not dead, nor have I been on a break... oh well maybe a little as I was at GDC and then when In came back I had covid and the world went a bit wobbly...
