Re: pi-hole + access point at the same time

oh! i came across https://raspap.com/. it's easy to set up and comes with a built-in ad blocker.

would pi-hole even make sense then? is it better?
(probably raspap + pi-hole would be easier to set up to work together but haven't tried it yet because of raspap's built-in ad blocker.)

Re: how do software floats work?

thanks for your answers! so if i understand this correctly: on CPUs that don't have FPUs (for example also on x86 up to 80386s) a compiler like GCC automatically outputs ASM instructions that handle the floating point numbers correctly (or rather calls functions like aeabi_fmul that contain those in...

how do software floats work?

so the RP2040 in hardware only supports integers... what exactly does this mean when programming in C? is it possible to use float literals in the code? if yes, what happens on compilation? how does the fast software floats library work? will we have to use some kind of float functions for everythin...

Re: Install Blender on Raspberry Pi 4B?

yes, probably you need a monitor. if it did run over vnc or rdp, it probably would be way too sluggish anyway. edit: ok, i also tried it now. it does run, so something else must be wrong with your setup. but you really wouldn't have much fun working with it that way. it's very sluggish and feels lik...

i have the same problem. exactly which benfei adapter did you use? (i kind of hate display port. :) how did this become the new standard for graphics cards and monitors? if you have a multi-monitor setup on your pc and switch off one monitor because you sometimes don't need it, is it normal that win...

Re: Any CAD programs for Pi for 3D printing

you could use openscad or blender 2.79b (not exactly a CAD program but can be used like one in many cases),... both are in the raspbian repository.

(unfortunately freecad always crashes on a raspberry pi.)

it's easy to miss such things in the blog though. maybe you could do a raspbian release notes page. Boggle... I at least read the title of new blog posts every day. If it's about a release (or anything else I might be interested in), I read the whole post. The blog is probably the best place to ann...

Read only file systems can be selected using Raspi configuration utility - see Performance tab. Overlay filesystem is a read only SD filesystem, but with a ramfs overlay over the top - so you can make changes in the ram disk, but they are never stored to SD card. This can turned on or off at any ti...

i would like to see built-in window snapping features on the raspbian desktop. like snap to the left half, or the right half,... maybe configurable zones like in windows with fancyzones (powertoys). yes, it would be nice if this could be added to the raspbian desktop.

a while ago i came across a tutorial about how this can be set up with lxde but back then i didn't test it and now i don't find it anymore.

hm... i haven't thought of that.
i would have liked to get rid of the sdcard but after thinking a bit about it... actually it doesn't really matter that much. :)

edit: probably later (once usb booting is supported) the boot partition also could be set up on the ssd manually somehow?

once the raspberry pi 4 gets the usb booting feature finished, i would like to use it with a spare 500gb ssd i have lying around. this ssd has multiple ext4 partitions and i would like to install raspbian to the first one without deleting the others. is this possible somehow? (since raspbian usually...

Re: Raspberry PI Web Server

I think that if you want publicly facing servers that are running all that junk and you are worried about the safety of your local LAN then you should not have the servers on your local LAN. Separate them. Use firewalls. yes, i will look into setting up two separate networks and firewalls. as far a...
