The old Pi must have been a 3B not a 3B+. The antenna wasn't very good in the 3B which is why you had lower signal strength.
You are right! I stand corrected! The old Pi was a 3B, not a 3B+. My eyes are apparently going bad

Re: 3A+ Doesn't Like Channel 1 ?

Been many days since I replaced the Pi 3B+ with the 3A+ and the shielded WIFi/BL module seems to be a much better setup than the 3B+. No lost connections and the signal level is ~1-db higher than with the 3B+. So, looks like the 3A+ (or a 4B with the same shielded chip) is a better option for locati...

Just to be sure, can you open a terminal and input the command vcgencmd get_throttled, it should return 0x0

Re: 3A+ Doesn't Like Channel 1 ?

Are these Pi powered by the 3D printers? You may not be getting enough power. They all have DC/DC Buck converters wired to the 24v power supply and adjusted to 5.1-5.2v output. The Raspberry Pi's red LED never flashes and the web page (OctoPrint) never reports a power issue. So I don't think there ...

Re: 3A+ Doesn't Like Channel 1 ?

Finished swapping out the 3B+ with a new 3A+ and the Signal Level reported by iwconfig went from -63db to -55db
Yay!
Still not as good as the 3A+ in the printer next to it at -42db but hopefully its good enough.
It is a different time of day, so I'll have to wait 'till tomorrow to check again.

Re: 3A+ Doesn't Like Channel 1 ?

I have tooo many 3d printers with raspberry pi's running in them, apparently, and forgot which pi's are in which printers. The 3D Printer (A4) having wifi connectivity issues with is using a 3B+, not a 3A+ I have another 3D Printer right next to the A4 that actually does have a 3A+ in it and it does...

Re: 3A+ Doesn't Like Channel 1 ?

If it only happens a certain times of the day it might give you a clue, like around meal times might indicate a micro wave . I assume you can't link it to a specific operation of the 3D printer just in case its some thing in there causing the problem. Yup its going to be guesswork as to why its hap...

Re: 3A+ Doesn't Like Channel 1 ?

May be its some local interference that's causing the problem Gotta be. Just can't pin it down. Nothing running in our apartment at that time, but neighbors? Who knows. It's only about 3 meters from the wifi router and inside a 3d printer with a plastic front facing the wifi router. Any way to dete...

3A+ Doesn't Like Channel 1 ?

Been having problems with connecting my 3A+ to my wifi network for a number of weeks (months actually). Sometimes it would connect and work just fine, other times I would power it on and it would connect only to lose connections or not connect at all. Today, it lost connection while I was viewing it...

Hi,

When an under-voltage happens it is recorded by the kernel. You can check kernel logs.
Of course if the under-voltage is too big the pi won't boot and won't record anything.
Already know that. Post is regarding AMPS, not Volts
Thanks

Re: Enough Amps?

If a power supply cannot deliver peak currents, the PI can crash because the voltage collapses below a level that it can operate with, as the crash will be immediate the PI doesn't have time to log anything. And that's the odd part, the red light never flashed indicating a voltage problem. I tried ...

Enough Amps?

How can I tell if my Pi is getting enough Amps from the USB Power Supply? Recently, I noticed that my Pi was just freezing for some unknown reason. I was not getting any low voltage warnings. The red power light was not blinking, but the Pi would just freeze requiring it to be rebooted. And sometime...

How to improve Wifi signal?

Looking for creative solutions. I have a Raspberry Pi 3A+ installed inside a 3D Printer running OctoPrint. And because it's inside a metal chamber of the printer, the wifi signal is not that great - even at only a few meters from the router. I've been looking at hacks to attach a wifi antenna to it,...

Easier to read /sys/class/net/eth*/statistics/rx_packets once a second, and count the difference.

Code: Select all

cat /sys/class/net/eth0/statistics/rx_bytes
This looks perfect!
Packets can be different size, so I think bytes works better for my purposes.
And it works on virtual interfaces as well!
Thanks!!!

Switching to wireguard is not possible. This issue is not with VPN performance. I get more that fast enough speeds when the internet is not clogged and the ISPs are not being taxed. The issue is when one ISP is having performance problems, then that VPN throughput drops and takes the other one with ...

Received Packet bps stats?

Does Raspbian have a log file or a package/utility for recording bps of incoming packets over a network interface?
Something where the data can be retrieved programatically?
Thanks!

Dynamic Load Balancing - Any experinces?

This is sort of a continuation of a previous thread: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=268769 Where I was trying to set up dual routing on my Pi (not really load 'balancing'). I got that part working. But still having throughput issues. In Brief: I have remote two RPI OpenV...

Re: ip route load balancing fails when one server goes down - ideas?

So, I didn't like having routes to non-existing tuns if/when a vpn client gets disconnected. Though I don't know for sure, I'm betting that it would still try it and clog everything up. So I wrote a little python script with file locking to prevent race conditions that is called via the 'up' and 'do...

Re: ip route load balancing fails when one server goes down - ideas?

Ok. looks like like up and down will work in the client.conf files if I disabled these settings: user nobody group nogroup persist-key persist-tun But I don't see a way to dynamically build or destroy the nexthop table depending on which tuns are active. It looks like you need to specify all the nex...

The tun for the dead connection is still active - just nothing is coming back. Not sure OpenVPN can detect that., but I'll dig into that. Then I'm not sure how to modify the nexthop list to remove a single hop, but I'll look into that as well and see what I can find. Thanks! This gives me some avenu...

Disabled all the openvpn...service(s) except openvpn.service and put the client files in /etc/openvpn. Enabled and Started that service and now it works properly.
