Pi Zero won't boot after apt full-upgrade

Weird problem. I've got 7 Pi Zero W's that are all configured identically with cameras. A couple of them are remote and pretty hard to get to, so I always update the local ones first to make sure there weren't any problems. About a month ago, two of the 5 local ones wouldn't boot after the update. N...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Is it possible to compress the motion mp4 content in tar format after the footage has been created ? Will I need an external script to scan the completed folder and tar each instance or has the rpi cam interface got a feature already built in ? MP4 is already a compressed format, so tarring them is...

Re: dhcpcd issue: all* my Pis are unreachable after update

Interesting, but I was not able to repro that on my Pi0w. That doesn't mean it's not the issue, since it's about 99.999% likely that we have different WiFi networks I do think something in my wifi network is a factor, but I don't understand quite how. Out of all the systems I have only two were una...

Re: dhcpcd issue: all* my Pis are unreachable after update

Well, here's some new info: on all of my Zero W's, I've disabled bluetooth with the directive: dtoverlay=pi3-disable-bt in /boot/config.txt . If I take that directive out, those systems boot fine, with or without a keyboard plugged in. With that directive in, dhcpcd only succeeds with a keyboard plu...

Re: dhcpcd issue: all* my Pis are unreachable after update

The only remaining issue is to figure out what all those "broken" systems have on them that a newly-created one doesn't have. I'd be looking at I've been spending some time comparing one of the systems that won't load dhcpcd without a keyboard, one of the old systems that still works corr...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

I got this set up, up and running quickly. But is there anyway to record this stream to a QNAP Nas? I don't know anything about QNAP specifically, but recording to a NAS in general is pretty straightforward. If your network connection is rock-solid, the easiest thing to do is to just map your /var/...

Re: dhcpcd issue: all* my Pis are unreachable after update

I have no doubts that you are seeing this behavior, but I'm unable to replicate it. I popped an unbooted SD card into my ZW, and the wifi seems to come up just fine with no keyboard attached. This is a caseless ZW sitting on a table with a monitor connected, USB port unconnected (both with and with...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Yes, it works when I run it from the command line. It's about the simplest RPi.GPIO script possible. But when I put it into an RPi Webcam Interface macro, it thinks it is no longer being executed on a Pi. What happens when you run sudo -u www-data /var/www/html/macros/led_on.py ? If that fails, the...

Re: dhcpcd issue: all* my Pis are unreachable after update

OK, this is bizarre. It appears that dhcpcd only starts correctly if there's a keyboard plugged into the Zero W. In fact, if I watch the screen while there's no keyboard attached, I'll see a message saying: A start job is running for dhcpcd on all interfaces (1min XXs / 1 min 50s) with the seconds c...

Re: dhcpcd issue: all* my Pis are unreachable after update

I retrieved another of the remote Pis. I compared the wpa_supplicant.conf file as well as /etc/dhcpcd.conf and all the files in /lib/dhcpcd, and they're all identical. I manually started dhcpcd with sudo systemctl start dhcpcd.service; it gave me a warning ("the unit file, source configuration ...

Re: dhcpcd issue: all* my Pis are unreachable after update

Don't know if related, but imho sudo apt update sudo apt full-upgrade is the correct precedure for standard raspbian buster (light). At least here this updates without issues (although no wifi)... My understanding is that you're correct in that full-upgrade is the preferred command, but dist-upgrad...

Re: dhcpcd issue: all* my Pis are unreachable after update

Did you look in the system logs to see what the actual error might be? If you post the output from sudo grep -E "dhcpcd|wlan0|wpa" /var/log/syslog we might be able to offer some suggestions. Weirdly, the one Pi that I can easily get to now sometimes (but now always) boots normally. But he...

Is possible to move adnotation (date, hour) from top-center to right-bottom of video?
Not as far as I know - that's a function of MMAL; it isn't implemented by RPi-CWI directly.

dhcpcd issue: all* my Pis are unreachable after update

(* ok, almost all) I've got about a dozen Pi Zero W's with cameras serving as wildlife cams that have been running without issue for a couple years. They all run headless and connect via wifi, and I manage them via SSH. I usually update them all at the same time, once a month or so. Today I ran apt ...

Hello, I went through all of the steps, but when I try to see the camera feed or do anything on the web server, nothing works. Where the camera feed should be, there is a flickering image icon. Any ideas?
Sounds like the camera might not be running - try executing ~/RPi_Cam_Web_Interface/start.sh

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Awesome, thank you. Fixed. Great. That's bitten me before. I'll open an issue - hopefully it will be an easy thing for the developer to change. Good news - Robert already updated the code to handle this! A space after the semicolon shouldn't be a problem anymore (as of ver. 6.6.13, I believe).

Try it without the space after the semicolon.

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Is it possible to use the Rpi Cam Web Interface AND the Pihole Web Interface? I only get one of them working. Should be doable in theory, but I haven't tried it. They would need to run on different ports (they both default to Port 80), so you'd have to change one or the other (it's easy to change t...
