Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Screen and video resolution used in the photos is 720x1280. I’ve tried it rotated in landscape (with a diff video) and it looks similar with black bars top and bottom in screenly. This screen is fiddly and requires custom config.txt settings plus only works with raspbian stretch - so I’m running st...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Update: I tried using omxplayer (without screenly). When playing default aspect mode (letterbox), I get the same issue as when playing via screenly. If I change to 'stretch' aspect mode though, I get video playing in full screen as intended. So.....how do I force 'stretch' aspect mode in screenly? ...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Hi everyone, I've recently been playing around with Screenly OSE on a Pi 3 A+ and have it up an running now on a monitor via HDMI.....but for my project I eventually need a smaller screen. I have a Hyperpixel 4.0 screen here which I have used before so was wondering if it's possible to use this? Wh...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Hi everyone, After a busy last few weeks, we've now finally merged in all the work we've been doing into the development branch. Because we have essentially reworked a huge chunk of the system, it is expected that we've broken a few things in the process. Thus we'd like to get users in to help us fi...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Hi everyone, I am a newbie with Screenly OSE and RPi here. I am currently using a RPi 4. If you see the developer documentation they provided, it states that it runs on Screenly-server. Does that mean it is running on their server or is it a localhost server? Another question is if Screenly OSE abl...

Re: Screenly on PiServer

Hi Benne,

I'm not sure to be honest. We haven't tested it. I don't see any reason why Screenly OSE wouldn't work in such setup. Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

It wouldn't however work with the commercial version of Screenly.

Issues with splash screen on Buster / Pi 4

I'm working on fixing the Pi 4/Buster support in Screenly OSE (https://github.com/Screenly/screenly-ose/issues/1389), but I've run into an issue with the splash screen (that used to work on Stretch). In short, I cannot make the splash screen work even using a base installation. Here are the steps to...

Re: Sonar: An open source room density / foot traffic sensor (using Bluetooth)

What do you do with the data that you retain for 180 days ? The retain data setting is for the 'scan result' captured (i.e. the devices discovered and their metadata). This is the data used for building the reports. The reports will be retained indefinitely, but the actual source data is purged aft...

Sonar: An open source room density / foot traffic sensor (using Bluetooth)

As people returns to work after COVID-19, it is becoming essential to understand foot traffic and density both in retail environments as well as in offices. Sonar ( https://github.com/databat-io/sonar ) was written to do just this. Using the Raspberry Pi's built-in Bluetooth chipset (3 Model B and l...

Re: WoTT - An attempt to automate Raspberry Pi security

Really big fan of Screenly. The headaches it has eliminated from using other digital signage solutions (even expensive paid ones) won't be missed. Thank you for the kind words! I've used WoTT a little and it was straightforward and simple. The question I have is about the specifics of the Active De...

WoTT - An attempt to automate Raspberry Pi security

Hi guys, Viktor here, the creator of Screenly. Recently, I’ve been busy hacking on a new project called Web of Trusted Things (WoTT). The concept behind WoTT is to simplify credential management (think API keys and password etc), certificate management (every device gets an x509 certificate as an id...

Is there a way to add the ability for token based authentication to Screenly in the OSE or Pro?
Not yet. It's however something that we have for the roadmap for Pro.

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

I can't see any reason why that wouldn't work. Only caveat is that the website cannot be too heavy. Hi all, First post here and new to Raspberry Pi Can Screenly run just one item? i.e. one video file or web page Reason i ask is that I am looking at setting up a display with 4 separate images using 4...

Interesting. Yeah, I know we've seen strange issues with SD cards over the years, but I don't recall any situation where the card wasn't detected. Thank you! It was the SD card(s). It seems that Samsung 32GB 95MB/s (U1) MicroSD EVO Select Memory Card will not boot on the 3B+ but will boot on the 3B ...

I'm unable to reproduce this. I just flashed out the release ( https://github.com/Screenly/screenly-ose/releases/tag/v0.15 ) to an SD card and was able to boot it just fine on a B+. Perhaps the the download or disk image was corrupt. I would suggest that you re-download the disk image (and validate ...

Hello,

we are trying the first steps with Screenly OSE.
The weather widget is a very nice idea, but the contrast is much to low. How can we change the background picture or the font color to black.

Thanks and regards,
Marco
Hi Marco,

That's not something we support at the moment.
