Re: Can't connect to Raspberry Pi Pico's MicroPython

I've just got a Pico, got it up and running plugged into my RPi4 and programmed it with Thonny and it runs main.py switching a couple of leds with a couple of Hall-effect devices and a magnet. So far so good. Plugging the Pico into my laptop running Ubuntu, Thonny doesn't give me the option of worki...

Re: Largest screen R_Pi4

Thanks for that. Sounds good for graphical design etc, I'm thinking i.c. layout as a VNC viewer running 256 colours on a remote server which runs Cadence. Not useful for video obviously.

Largest screen R_Pi4

I say chaps,
What's the largest, most pixcels, single screen a R_Pi4 will cope with? There are some monster TVs around these days, 8k etc.

Power through GPIB

I say chaps, I've done a couple of projects with Pis putting the power into pins 6 and 4 of the GPIB. A telescope controller battery powered and a WiFi access point which lives in the attic. A good way, I think, for a permanent installation and for robots and the like. Any downsides to this approach...

Re: Battery for Raspberry Pi 4B

I'm using a Pi Zero W in my Meade telescope, the controller for which had packed up, plus a Playstation controller to the Bluetooth. I use NiMH AAcells. The battery compartment takes 8 cells, which I've re-wired for 2 series sets of 4 in parallel to give about 5.2V. Connected directly to pins 4 and ...

This is what I captured off a video of the screen before it re-booted. (I hope I succeeded in uploading the file) Perhaps someone wiser than myself can make something of it.

Re: Introducing Pi386

I say chaps,
In Ubuntu, a flavour of Linux just like Debian is, WINE is a standard bit of software. Some programs are OK with it, some not. One which works very well is LT-Spice which is only available as a Windows download, but runs under WINE just as quickly, if not more so.

Re: Zero W resets during boot

I have done the thing with the USB cable and no SD card; the PC sees the Broadcom chip. I've tried it with just the RPi power supply on its own, and with a bigger supply plus 1800uF when plugged into the logic card I'm developing. I've taken care with logic levels etc, checked with 'scope beforehand...

That YouTube video gives me an idea how to capture the last line of text before the black screen. Would that help to fix the problem? Sounds like some over-ambitious next step trips it up.

Re: Zero W resets during boot

Here's some things I've tried:
Fresh load Raspian Lite with Imager onto SD card. Swapped that card into a RPi3 which has been working fine. RPi3 boots to command line OK. Sudo shutdown -h now. Swapped card back, Pi3 boots good, as it did. Put 1st card into Pi0, same fault.

Zero W resets during boot

I say chaps, I have this problem too. I've scoured Internet for advice, but no joy so far. Power supply is OK. Regulation RPi item. Also tried feeding 5.2V from another supply into the GPIO pin, with 1800uF capacitor across the supply. Checked with DVM, wanders 5.0 to 5.2 without capacitor, steady 5...

Playstation controller via Bluetooth

I say chaps, I've got a PS3 controller working on one RPi3 but not on another RPi3. Not on Bluetooth or even via USB. Even swapping the MicroSD chips over doesn't make the other one work the PS3. The second RPi3 is about 2 years older. Is there a subtle difference in firmware perhaps? What to do? TT...

Re: Get output from Terminal into Python

Thanks. That was useful. Once I figured out how to use the "dictionary" function on the returned string I was able to assign actions to buttons. e.g. if (self.button_data[3])==True: GPIO.output(37, GPIO.HIGH) # Turn on if (self.button_data[3])==False: GPIO.output(37, GPIO.LOW) # Turn off

Re: Direct telescope control of Meade RA & Dec drives

I say chaps, I'm afraid I couldn't get any of that to work for me, so I'm going back to basics. I obtained a Sony PS3 game controller, and intend to use that as a basic two motor control. So, if I do "jstest" on the console I get a string of text with changing numbers and on-off values, in...

/home/pi/Downloads onto external hard drive?

I say chaps,
Is it possible to choose where downloads are put by default? I should like to use a USB 1TB hard drive for this purpose, leaving the MicroSD just for programs and OS.

Raspberry Pi into iMacG4

I say chaps,
I've got this iMac G4 (swan-neck thing you may recall) which I like the look of, but it's pretty useless these days.
Thought I might rip most of its guts out and put in a Pi!
Would have to interface HDMI to the screen.
Anyone ever try this?

GPIO hindered by print statements.

I say chaps, Here is a snippet of code: Note that I had print statements and a colourful display to help get this right, but they caused the problems. The printed result and the display said it was all working fine, but an oscilloscope on the GPIO pins told another story, of missed pulses. After I c...

This is another case where a schematic would be useful. So far as I can tell, all the USB sockets, the +5 GPIO pins and the +5 power input are copper connected.

Mathematica and GPIO

I say chaps, I've got a "real world, real time" situation, with sensors and things to control, which I can do with GPIO and, perhaps, Python to pull the strings, but some heavy maths (multi-variable optimisation) in between. Rather than spend a lot of time writing Python code, I thought I ...
