Re: Camera Aperture/Stripes Issue

HermannSW has done quite a lot of high speed experimentation with quite a few RasPi cameras. I would recommend checking his posts by searching this board for more specific details (see edit 3) Global Shutter cameras allow full images every time VS Rolling Shutter Cameras which could miss stuff for a...

Re: Legacy camera stack under Bullseye

Your original post does not discuss that you can't have both. Either you use Libcamera OR RasPiStii(vid). Or am I wrong you can have both? Either way if you could add which one it is to the original post to avoid confusion that would be awesome. And Now I understand from reading your post. With the ...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

The changes to the OS camera support made in Bullseye mean that raspimjpeg a key component of this interface doesn't work any more. The previous standard apps supplied with the OS raspistill and raspivid have also been removed and replaced by libcamera-still and libcamera-vid which are not totally ...

Re: Full Manual for Video (RaspiVid) for HDMI Preview Output

I was just looking at the block drawing for the Pi at this thread (I do believe this is a Pi4) https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?t=271632 It looks like the Camera can come in be H264 encoded and then go back out HDMI. I understand that Libcamera is Input only. Also that H264 is just a Co...

Re: Full Manual for Video (RaspiVid) for HDMI Preview Output

With this all being said how do people view the camera in realtime and what is the realistic size and frame rates? I know RasPiVid relied heavily on the Blob based ISP and is the reason Libcamera exists now. The ISP gave realtime GPU hardware functionality that I am guessing is now replaced by the ...

Re: Full Manual for Video (RaspiVid) for HDMI Preview Output

libcamera knows nothing about displaying images. Raspberry Pi's libcamera-apps are the applications we provide on top of libcamera to emulate most of the raspi* features. libcamera-apps can display using X Windows or through DRM/KMS (when X Windows is not running). I guess I need to deep dive into ...

Re: Full Manual for Video (RaspiVid) for HDMI Preview Output

libcamera is a Linux framework for getting images from a camera, pure and simple. It has nothing to do with how they are displayed, HDMI or otherwise, I'm afraid. Thank you for the reply in regards to Libcamera. That will be helpful for me when I am doing filmmaking. I will stick with RPi_Cam_Web_I...

Re: Full Manual for Video (RaspiVid) for HDMI Preview Output

So you want real time. So, no, libcamera doesn't give you any extra performance, you are limited by the HW. 4 lane CSI is available on the CM4, but we don't make a 4 lane camera PCB - I think you can get them, Arducam maybe, or make your own. But you are still limited by the underlying maximum pixe...

Re: Full Manual for Video (RaspiVid) for HDMI Preview Output

"..CRT in the background starts to roll and glitch" I guess that implies the FPS is changing. I thought that too but with -ex FixedFPS and -fps 30 With no Shutter Speed set I can get rolling on the CRT. Which led me to the Shutter Speed varies inside the fixed frames per second. This CRT ...

Re: Full Manual for Video (RaspiVid) for HDMI Preview Output

No, not talking about stop frame. You appear to be wanting to digitise film stock. That does not need to be done in real time. I.e. there is no need to be watching it whilst it is being done. Although people do interesting things with the camera system, you cannot exceed the hw limitations. The thr...

Re: Full Manual for Video (RaspiVid) for HDMI Preview Output

I think this is a case of "I wouldn't do it like that". So, if I wanted to use very high resolution images and create video from them, I would not do that in real time. I'd capture frames at a frame rate the camera can cope with, then render them in to a video, of whatever bitdepth is nee...

Re: Full Manual for Video (RaspiVid) for HDMI Preview Output

The speed limitations are hardware limitation, not software limitations. So changing to libcamera will make no difference to the overall performance. You cannot conflate display side with camera side, they are completely different things. What the camera produces is unrelated to what the display ca...

" if I set my FPS is it not fixed with a '-ex Matrix'?" Typo ? There is no -ex Matrix, there is -mm matrix for metering . If you mean -ex off then l believe that the set -fps value is overridden if the -ss Shutter speed set exceeds the frame duration, and it will reduce the fps accordingl...

has this fact changed? 1080p 30fps 8bit Max for Camera to HDMI output

HDMI Output from the Camera is limited to 8bit 1080p 30fps maximum. This is a fact from previous posts as confirmed by 6by9. I am bringing this up as facts can change as people find new ways to do things. Just confirming that this is still a fact and there is not some new way to go around X by doing...

Re: Full Manual for Video (RaspiVid) for HDMI Preview Output

Simple film brain... Shutter speed - Automatic or Manually set, YES settable on Pi camera, if manual set (-ex off) then set shutter speed with -ss You may not be able to answer this. If you use -ex with anything but OFF Does that negate Shutter Speed Settings? Why Fixedfps', I noticed that without ...
