Re: New Pi 4B - Destroyed 2 monitors :(

Excess current usually is going into either the SoC or a decoupling capacitor between a supply rail and 0 Volt. Multilayer ceramic caps (MLCC) are well known for turning into very low value resistors if mechanically damaged. https://www.tayloredge.com/reference/Electronics/Capacitors/MLC_FailureMec...

Re: New Pi 4B - Destroyed 2 monitors :(

I decided to try and connect the faulty board to a Raspberry Pi LCD today, and amazingly it does actually start the boot process. However as in the above posts I lose the 3.3v after about 10 seconds, the screen goes blank and that is that. Any ideas on what would cause this? Faulty PMIC? Connecting...

Re: New Pi 4B - Destroyed 2 monitors :(

What are you using for a power supply? The first post mentions the official power supply. I also suspected that the wall wart was defective. https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?p=1940054#p1940054 Has this possibility been ruled out? Yes I confirm I am using an official PSU, which continues...

Re: New Pi 4B - Destroyed 2 monitors :(

Hi All, I have done some further testing on my broken Pi 4 and here are my findings.... 1. When powered with nothing connected and no SD Card the PMIC gets very hot within a few seconds. The red light is on solid as is the green. 2. I am able to measure 3.3v and 5v at the various test points, until...

Re: New Pi 4B - Destroyed 2 monitors :(

Bringing this thread back on topic :) I don't have a multimeter to hand to test the voltage rails, but the MXL7704 also gets red hot. Is this a classic symptom that this chip is damaged? According to some images and blog entries I see on the internet, the MXL7704 is one of the hottest chips on the ...

Re: New Pi 4B - Destroyed 2 monitors :(

I think it would be nice if the boxes could be sealed with a security sticker so that you can see if it has been previously opened. The RPi boards I have purchased recently, including an RPi4B-2G from The Pi Hut in November 2019, do come in packaging with two adhesive blobs under the tab marked 'op...

That's the fancy new DC-DC converter that's on the newer Pi 4 boards. I don't have any on hand that I can poke around at, unfortunately.

Yes I note it is quite a bit different down in that corner compared to my Pi4 4Gb which I purchased at launch.

Re: New Pi 4B - Destroyed 2 monitors :(

There are a LOT of shifty vendors on Amazon selling Pi boards and modules (and various other electronics). My guess is that you got a used Pi that had been damaged by a previous owner then returned, repackaged, and sold to you. :( Do the SD cards you tried in that board still work? Can you post som...

Thanks for all the rapid answers, and the clarification on the anti static bags! New Pi 4B - Destroyed 2 monitors :(

Hi All, So after years of trouble free computing with the various iterations of the Pi I have had my first major hardware upset. Purchased a new 4B 8Gb from Amazon for a project I am working on. I was a little suspicious as when I opened the box the board was just laying in the box with no static ba...

Re: GPS LAN TRACKING

Thank you for the responses Right now I'm using cellphones and the TRACCAR server. It works okay for orienting devices in close proximity but without internet there's no map, just a white screen with dots representing user cellphones. I'm very open to the usage of other devices instead, and other p...

Re: Need help recovering data from RAID array.

I recommend that you try R-Studio, it’s commercial software but I think they have a trial available. It specifically supports raid recovery on multiple file system types. The full version is pretty cheap as well.

Re: After soldering a pin header, can't flash LED anymore

Sorry to say but those soldered joints are very poor. The solder clearly hasn't flowed from the pin to the pad on the PCB. When soldering you need to ensure both the pad and the pin are sufficiently heated before applying solder to the joint. I would recommend getting hold of some Veroboard if you c...

Script for creating RPI images (similar to pi-gen)

Hi All, Using ideas from pi-gen and the Hypriot project, I have composed some scripts to enable the building of a working Raspberry Pi Image. You can change settings such as the OS variant you want to build within the build_sysroot.sh file. To modify what packages are installed edit the chroot-scrip...

Re: Anyone cross compiled QT for the Pi 4 yet.

Kilograham, Due to a bug, debootstrap doesn’t build a buster sysroot without using a 32bit host. You will get strange issues such as SSL problems like you are having. To fix the problem either use a 32bit host, or do what I do and that is to use docker in a 64bit environment but with an i386 image....

Re: about cpu usage rate and hard disk usage rate after set Raid 1

I would fully expect dismal performance. The usb ports and ethernet are all connected to a single controller on the SOC, you only have 1gb of ram and using software raid. I may be wrong because I have never tried, but I would think your idea is a non starter, well with any kind of acceptable perform...

Re: can a RPi be used to control a concentrator unit ?

It certainly has more than enough "control" but in terms of driving motors and interfacing with sensors, I personally would use a Motor Hat which is specifically designed for the job.

Something like this one...
