Re: DoggieCam

At first I thought you meant a webcam around the dog's neck that records its walk at dog level. But I see it now, owner at work, check on dog at home via webcam. You would want to be mindful of security, potentially leaving access to the owner's home network open. I use RPi-Cam-Web-Interface on my l...

Re: FlightAware (PiAware) data upload 24/7

I'm starting to understand better now, I think I only need to log into Flightaware to watch the flights on the map and see all the info. This afternoon I left the laptop off but Pi on, and it still sent data to Flightaware. I've read Flightaware will delete your site (i.e. your Pi) from your account...

Re: FlightAware (PiAware) data upload 24/7

Thanks Neil, I'll give it a try tonight. I thought that if I shutdown my Windows laptop (logged into FlightAware) the data upload would stop. It doesn't matter on this occasion if it does, I'm just starting out. Doesn't PiAware look for a FlightAware login though? Maybe the data is sent regardless. ...

FlightAware (PiAware) data upload 24/7

I have set up PiAware on a Pi Zero W using a Pi Hut pre-installed SD Card. I also have a FlightAware account and have been uploading data today. I'm logged into the FlightAware website on a Windows laptop. Do I need to leave the two computers switched on 24/7 to upload the data? I'm hoping there is ...

Re: Best OS for MAME/arcade games: RetroPie, RecalBox, Lakka, Batocera?

Mario64 is an example that requires an analog thumbstick for good gameplay. For MAME Defender, I used the D-Pad for Up/Down, but used both shoulder buttons for Reverse. Much better than trying to utilise the D-Pad for Reverse. You can map the controls game by game, rather than globally. MAME AquaJet...

Re: Best OS for MAME/arcade games: RetroPie, RecalBox, Lakka, Batocera?

Yes, Retropie works fine for MAME, though by default it doesn't come with the latest MAME version - you may have to install that subsequently if required for certain games. The games I play are less taxing on the system, early 80's arcade, so I haven't personally noticed slowdown. I recall some slow...

Re: Best OS for MAME/arcade games: RetroPie, RecalBox, Lakka, Batocera?

I used to use MAME on a Windows laptop, utilising a Wii Classic Controller Pro through a bluetooth Wiimote (required a couple of third party software installs). Now I use a Pi4 4GB with RetroPie. I still use the Wii Classic Controller Pro, but bought a Raphnet Wii to USB adapter which just works, no...

Re: Cheap telescope for camera experiments

I have no ideo how to capture sun (big filter?), only read warnings NOT to spot the sun. You must use a proper solar filter in front of the telescope (definitely NOT behind the eyepiece). I recently started taking video of the sun using the following filter in front of an old SLR camera lens and Pi...

Re: Spotting scope to Camera HQ

Another option is to use an adapter which attaches to the scope and also holds the camera. One advantage is that the weight of the camera/lens is supported. You can also adjust the distance from eyepiece to camera lens if required. I use the following adapter with binoculars, but also works for spot...

Re: Astrophotography queston

Thanks Rich, I enjoyed your video with dramatic music! I can understand the issue with tripods, mine are lightweight and when I line up with the moon the heavy binoculars or scope pull it out of alignment as I tighten up the locks. The Pi and HQ camera are on another tripod, making for a tedious bal...

Re: MAME arcade emulator

You need an SD card set up for MAME. There are dedicated operating systems for pure MAME, but initially you should search for RetroPie Raspberry Pi 4 which gives access to other emulators. If you also want to use your Pi for other things besides games (without swapping SD cards) you can get MAME fro...

Re: Raspberry Pi Camera Gallery

Tonight was a clear sky and a full moon. This was taken with a 60X scope and Pi Zero W with HQ camera and official 6mm lens. It isn't ideally focused, currently I have the scope on one tripod and the Pi on another, so not very stable. I need to look at building a support for both. Not bad though, I ...

Re: PoE output?

Could you use something like a TP-Link Nano Router in client mode to extend the wifi. I use one between an outdoor camera and the wifi in the house, it would need to be protected from the weather (I use a plastic Dri-Box). I assume you already have an outdoor power source to run the Pi. Sorry I don'...

Re: How to open the official mouse?

There is a screw on the underside of the mouse, underneath the rear 'slider'. Use a craft knife to carefully peel it partway off, you can restick it afterwards. Remove the screw. Then use a thin piece of plastic (guitar pick) round the edge which will seperate the mouse. There are no other latches, ...

It works on my Pi Zero W, I use Postgresql 11.9 with Apache2 2.4.38, PHP7.3 and required dependencies (all current PiOS repository). I don't know how robust (or fast) it really is for production use, as I only use it to play around with databases I made. I view the data on PHP pages on a Windows lap...

Re: breathing sensor for raspberry pi

I'm not sure what level of technicality you are expected to go into for your project. My ideas would require some coding, try searching for programs for Pi that count button presses etc. I envision a tube that someone breathes into, and in that tube is a diaphragm valve that triggers a switch (compl...

Re: breathing sensor for raspberry pi

For a personal project I would look into the various ways airflow is measured in the medical field or in physiology labs (e.g. testing athletes). 'Thermistor airflow sensors' which measure inhalation and exhalation air temperatures, CO2 sensors (from which you can also calculate airflow) or even an ...

Hi, thank you very much for replying so quickly, I went through option 1 and all is now working! I connected an ethernet cable (as wifi is off by default) and used PuTTY to SSH into the Pi. I then mapped a Windows network drive to \\ARCADE\data\roms and copied the files across. Looking forward to us...

Re: [UPDATE] How to make a dedicated MAME Appliance on a Raspberry Pi 4B

Hello bbegin, I downloaded your latest image for the emulator and it installed perfectly. I made the mistake of changing to arcade mode before transferring roms using the samba share, and now I cannot work out how to return to service mode. The Pi always starts up in arcade mode with no command line...

Re: Outdoor enclosure for PI4B

I use a Dri-box (dri-box.com) to house a POE receiver for a wildlife camera. It has been outside in all weathers for several months with no water ingress. Ports at either end for cables. A PI would easily fit in the box, they come in various sizes so hopefully a larger size would allow for air cooli...

Re: Is raspberry pi 4 8G good enough to watch online videos?

The Pi4 8G is definitely good enough for online video, I use that now. I previously used a Pi Zero, which amazed me with its ability to play local video files, even DVD rips, via OMX player. It fell down for me though when trying to watch Youtube in a browser, pages just wouldn't load. One way round...
