Re: Pi4-4GB Running 64-bit PiOS Update Question

You might want to do what they did and install ntp I actually have NTP installed. Restarting the service was what fixed my issue actually. This whole rabbit hole started with me being unable to reach my server and snowballed from there. It seems I had a corrupt sector or something on the flashdrive...

Pi4-4GB Running 64-bit PiOS Update Question

I have a headless, 64-bit, Pi4-4GB RAM system that boots to a thumbdrive. I have had running for months. It is running a LAMP stack webserver that really has nothing on it, but eventually I wanted to make it live. In the meantime it has just been running in the closet. I periodically update it via S...

Re: Astronomy/Weather Clock adds touchscreen and GPS support

This looks really cool! I found it while searching for a pi project that will replace my recently deceased commercial weather station and allow me to use one of the two 7" touchscreen, RPi3B+ cases I have like this: https://www.amazon.com/Raspberry-Pi-7-Inch-Touch-Screen/dp/B01GQFUWIC I already...

Re: STICKY: Raspberry Pi OS (64 bit) beta test version feedback

Should I run this to get to the 5.10 kernel? I DO NOT RECOMMEND DOING THIS WITHOUT ASKING ADVICE FOR YOUR SPECIFIC PROBLEMS. It gets a very early beta testing kernel and bootcode (and that was badly broken yesterday). OK, I'm not having any issues that I know of. I was trying to understand if becau...

Time to upgrade to the 5.10.0-rc7-v8+ kernel and test that. sudo -s BRANCH=next rpi-update reboot Do you recommend this for anyone running the beta? Did you ever get a resolution on this? I just tried to install phpmyadmin via on the latest updated 5 minutes ago version of 64bit: sudo apt install phpmyadmin ...and it said: Package phpmyadmin is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has b...

Re: Running Zoom on RPi: made easy with Pi-Apps - the new RPi app store

Pi-Apps has been designed and tested on Raspberry Pi OS. Absolutely zero testing has occurred on Ubuntu thus far. I don't have the slightest idea if Zoom would work on there, but I see no reason why not. (As long as it's 32-bit Ubuntu) This brings up a question for me: does/should this work ONLY on...

Re: PHP Version 7.X or 8.X

Do you need anything above 7.3? Its supported for another year yet. I haven't come across anyone using 7.4 yet. 7.3 seems to have become the new "standard" like 5.6 was for a long time. The reason is that I'm looking at migrating some websites (combination of Joomla, HTML and custom PHP) ...

Re: PHP Version 7.X or 8.X

I'd stick with 7.x for now. 8 is just being released and will probably need to get the bugs shaken out of it first. If you really want to get 8, then sudo apt autoremove --purge php then download the new v8 sources, compile and install. I've already compiled it to see if it would (it did). But I'm ...

PHP Version 7.X or 8.X

I am a novice here and installed PHP v7.3 from the Raspbian repository. It seems to be the only version available there. I have found articles and procedures for installing other versions, but my question is whether there is a way to install other versions from the same repository? For example can I...

Re: STICKY: Raspberry Pi OS (64 bit) beta test version feedback

The usual upgrade will take it out of Beta when released as Stable, though one should regularly upgrade anyway: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/raspbian/updating.md Did something big happen in the last day or two? My system was completely update as of a few days ago. Yesterday, I ran my n...

Re: STICKY: Raspberry Pi OS (64 bit) beta test version feedback

If I install the 64 bit beta as described here:

Once it is released as stable, will this version update to the stable line or will I have to start all over?

Sorry if this is a no-brainer to some of you. I'm a Linux novice for sure!

Re: Swapping SD Card from one Pi4 to another

Swapping microSD card (with raspbian buster, initial full setup done on RPi4B-4G) between RPis is how I test newly arrived RPis. always boots normally as expected, never had any problems even with RPi4, RPiZ, etc. I've done that too or cloned a card with the SD Card Copier and used the clone (and s...

Re: Swapping SD Card from one Pi4 to another

Yes, moving a card form a Pi4 to another Pi4 should not cause any issues like that. They likely had different versions of EEPROM, but could that cause an issue like this? A RPi engineer would know. I'm not sure about this, but I had thought that s part of boot up the current images checked the firm...

Swapping SD Card from one Pi4 to another

I have a Pi4-1GB that I have been using (headless) for a while but sometimes it's a bit doggy. I recently got a 2GB version to hopefully improve performance. I took the running fine SD card from the 1GB Pi and put it into the 2GB Pi. To keep it simple should this work? I'm only a novice, but I'm not...

Re: Torrent box speed & qbittorent vs deluged?

You can update to Buster from the last version, but why? It's so easy to just install new from scratch it isn't worth it IMO. The packages to install the "new" torrent box are all well known. The biggest PITA, is likely trying to migrate all your torrents. I tired to migrate from QBT to De...

Re: Notes while installing Plex Media Server on a Pi4-4Gb/Buster

Is this because you MUST be logged into the Plex portal at least initially to access anything in a PMS? Does that create some sort of "permanent" tunnel from the PMS to Plex unless you unplug the network cable?

I agree it's an issue, but I'm trying to understand this better.

Legacy display driver in latest Raspian BUSTER release has support for dual display. If you want to use it you will need to make a few addtional steps though because it doesn't run 'out-of-the-box'. . . . If everything is fine you should see your desktop spread across both displays So........this w...
