Re: Very New, Very Frustrated

There's obviously something that I'm missing, but what the heck it is, I don't know. What you're missing is that you didn't research whether what you wanted to do is possible with what you bought. What's actually going on is that you made a bad buy! That's helpful. What would be more helpful would ...

Re: Trying to understand what I did with my GPIO...

Did you connect it to 3.3V or 5V? Power consumption will be very low from the GPIO pin as there is a buffer transistor on board. But it's PNP, so it's a high-side driver. You could easily look at the board and draw a schematic. Here's the transistor: https://www.sunrom.com/p/s8550-2ty-pnp-sot-23-smd...

Re: Using Stand Alone MPU

Thank you everyone. Though I was a little unclear, I got my answer. I just can't extract the MPU and use it alone with some necessary stuff like crystals and capacitors for an MCU to work alone. No, but you could buy a Pi Zero 2, which is much smaller than the Pi 3B and might have sufficient resour...

Re: Monitoring 48volt DC circuit

Hi, We are looking for a HAT that would give us the capability of monitoring 48 volt DC circuits. We suspect the voltage may reach 58volts at points. Could anyone point us at the right hardware? We have benign googling for weeks.... Thanks! What do you want to monitor? Actual voltage? Voltage prese...

Re: Help/Advice Wanted - Raspberry Pi 12V Marine Use Case

You can probably have a network of two devices. The HU and the Pi. You would also need to connect the DAC output to the HU aux. input independently. Next, on the Pi you should be able to intercept messages from the HU saying a certain button had been pressed (stop, play, next) or generate messages o...

Ok. That's an achievable distance for most communication methods. There are tons of ways to do it. Pick the one your friends are using.

Re: Raspberry Pi Zero Ethernet LAN

So, what is the bottom line here??? As far as I can tell, it seems to boil down to: 1) If you aren't using (i.e., don't need) USB "gadget mode", then just use an a hub-with-ethernet. In fact, I have one of these and plan on using it in my next Pi0 project. 2) If you do need gadget mode, t...

Re: Help/Advice Wanted - Raspberry Pi 12V Marine Use Case

Great! At least you have realistic expectations! Frankly I'd ditch the head unit and have a simple amplifier, with all the work done by Kodi (or whatever) on the Pi. On the other hand, the head unit you have is already quite capable, so why complicate things? But, if you still want to go ahead then ...

Re: Help/Advice Wanted - Raspberry Pi 12V Marine Use Case

Interesting, so you're saying that the juice isn't worth the squeeze from a sound quality perspective? Does that imply that higher bitrate MP3 via USB flash drive would/could sound better than streaming from mobile via Bluetooth? Or are you just saying that from a practicality perspective? Pretty m...

Re: Help/Advice Wanted - Raspberry Pi 12V Marine Use Case

Thanks for the reply. I could go the USB flash drive route, but my assumption is (I could be wrong here, so please correct me if so) I'm likely to yield better overall sound quality with a Pi + DAC HAT via Aux in on the head unit than I would with a flash drive. I'd also gain support for more encod...

RPT was incorporated 10th September 2012, but there have been some significant changes in the last few moths and years. Anyone else noticed that "Raspberry Pi (Trading) Ltd" officially changed its name to "Raspberry Pi Ltd" on the 18th of October ? I am not sure if anyone has fi...

Re: Help/Advice Wanted - Raspberry Pi 12V Marine Use Case

5V will be fine. And yes, you will need to handle shutting down the Pi properly. The following options come to mind: Leave the Pi on all the time. It could even be playing music all the time, but you'll only hear it when the head unit is on. Have a physical shutdown button on the Pi. Easy to impleme...

If you can deal with 5.1 you can use this:

(available from several places).

I am using one with Kodi for surround sound in my media room.

Re: Help/Advice Wanted - Raspberry Pi 12V Marine Use Case

It sounds like you have everything sorted, but just need a power supply.

Something like this:
https://m.aliexpress.com/item/32326484181.html

Will give you 5V at up to 5A.

Then hook up the Pi DAC output to the head unit AUX input. Done.

Google down again?

There's this one:
https://www.adafruit.com/product/3374

But it's discontinued.

Or you could attach an ENC28J60. It's not a hat, but it's easy to connect:
