Code: Select all

sudo apt install --reinstall pi-greeter
Just tried that with no change. I'm sure something is missing/broken as no matter what I try, there's no getting back to the Pi OS interface

Booting to Debian not Raspberry Pi OS

My Raspberry Pi OS install seems to be stuck on a Debian desktop rather than the Raspberry Pi OS desktop. I've had this only a couple of times over the years, and previously I'm pretty sure I just reinstalled Raspberry Pi OS previously as I couldn't find an answer on Google. This SD card started lif...

Re: Audio activation causes webcam to freeze

Hi all I grabbed a new unit from stock today and have undertaken some testing. It has the same device ID as both of your models (the cameras which came in the smaller cardboard box). When I first tried it (exact same basic test on Zoom) the microphone didn't work (in a USB 3.0 port). I then tried it...

Re: Audio activation causes webcam to freeze

Just checking in to see if any progress was made over the weekend. Seems we're still not quite there yet. I think the next best test would be for me to try one of the cameras from our recent batches (and make sure it has the same ID as both of your cameras) to see if that changes anything. If it sti...

Re: Audio activation causes webcam to freeze

I think we may have something here! (He says for the millionth time but hopefully I'm not wrong this time :) ) So I'm not able to check just yet but it looks like your webcam has a different device ID... And if we look here https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-media/msg183558.html It seems that the ...

I've added the output of those commands below for you. Re returns - no problem at all, just let us know via our ticket system and mention "forum conversation with Rich" and I'll make sure the team sort that out for you. I'll test an 8GB board next, will be good to have a clear picture on h...

Re: Audio activation causes webcam to freeze

That's just over an hour on the 4GB board completed (thanks to Zoom who are now providing longer meetings for free). I had video and audio (mic) connected/enabled the entire time and we even connected my phone to the meeting from the other side of the building to test the mic output. Everything work...

Re: Audio activation causes webcam to freeze

So I've just tried this with an older 1GB Raspberry Pi 4 (I had one on my desk so was interested in how that would perform). The Pi has a newly flashed Pi OS 32-bit image on a Panasonic Class 10 card using the Raspberry Pi Imager, which has been updated with sudo apt-get update and sudo apt full-upg...

Re: Audio activation causes webcam to freeze

Hi Nick Rich from The Pi Hut here (thanks for the link to this post). I'm just running some tests now to see if we can see the same issues here. We sell lots of these cameras and apart from a few cases, most seem to have no issues - so I'm hoping (in a weird way) that this is some kind of hardware f...

Re: sudo apt full-upgrade = green light of death

Just adding an observation. I realised tonight that whilst I've had no issues with these Toshiba Exceria cards before, I haven't used them on a Pi4 previously. I also realised that my other functioning Pi4s (3 of them) without issues (that I haven't attempted the upgrade with as I'd like to keep dea...

Re: sudo apt full-upgrade = green light of death

Something's definitely not right. I just checked my mining pool and this same Pi was offline. I tried to SSH in - nothing. So I cycled power and now the green light is on again. Note that this was without trying the upgrade. I tested the SD card as instructed, no issues detected. I wonder, is there ...

Re: sudo apt full-upgrade = green light of death

So what size SD cards are you trying to use , I would recommend no smaller that 8GB for raspbian lite, I would also recommended testing your SD cards with H2testW to see if they are failing or fake, I would also recommend downloading a fresh copy of raspbian just in case there is a problem with the...

Re: sudo apt full-upgrade = green light of death

Make, model and size of SD cards? What are you using for a power supply? Have you verified the SHA256 hash sum of your Raspbian download? Have you tested your SD cards with h2testw or a similar flash memory verification utility? Describe your procedures for setting up your system (the answer might ...

Re: sudo apt full-upgrade = green light of death

I've just noticed your location. There are active Pi users in your area, some of whom may be able to help you test things. I don't know if you are aware of SOSLUG? (Southend-On-Sea Linux User Group). They have run a few Raspberry Pi events here in Chelmsford. Yes I went down to a few SOSLUG meeting...

Re: sudo apt full-upgrade = green light of death

Just happened again with a different SD card.

Fresh Raspbian Lite install, same process, same green light after I followed the upgrade process.

So, I've just written a fresh image AGAIN and this time I get the green light before doing anything at all.

Now I'm really confused.

Re: sudo apt full-upgrade = green light of death

Mine are all 2GB models. All running Raspbian Lite.

Just tried another SD card - works fine. Same Raspbian image file I used before too. I'll now try the same upgrade with this one and see what happens.

sudo apt full-upgrade = green light of death

I wanted to check if my Raspberry Pi 4 boards were running the latest firmware to keep temperatures down. Re: SSD as Storage via USB Adapter

I think this is now resolved, so I'm adding commentary here for others who may find this thread. A friend asked me to run 'ls -al /home/pi' to see what was showing for the mount point I had set for my SSD. The SSD was showing as 'root root' which was different to the 'pi pi' that my Seagate drive wa...

[SOLVED] SSD as Storage via USB Adapter

I bought an SSD>USB adapter after reading some posts here showing some success. My use case is slightly different to those posts as I'm using my SSD simply as storage for music (for a Plex server). I already use a Seagate Expansion 2TB hard drive (NTFS filesystem) with my Pi with no issues - it auto...

2x 7" 1024x600 screens

I have two slightly different 7" screens up for grabs. Both have been opened but never used ( you know how it is ). I fired them up this evening to test they work, however the protective film is still intact. One is Sainsmart, the other Tontec. Both are 1024x600, both appear to have the same co...
