Re: python image processing - part inspection (OpenCV?)

You could use OpenCV. If you don't know much about machine learning at the moment, you could try something like Google's Teachable Machine instead ( https://teachablemachine.withgoogle.com/ ). You can load it up with pictures, train it in the cloud, and it will generate a TensorFlow model which you ...

No, it doesn't. There is no 4-pin connector for the PoE HAT.

Yeah, seems like a good idea @ejolson. A generic plastic case should be great to just enclose the drive in.

Re: Upgrading to an ssd

If you plug the SSD enclosure into your computer, does it show up as a USB drive? If it does then this suggests a compatibility issue with the Pi.

Re: Upgrading to an ssd

Thanks very much! It does seem weird that the enclosure doesn't work and the cable does, but it's probably because they use a different chip etc. When you connect the enclosure, does it seem to power up? I'm asking because sometimes the pi can't provide enough power for 'hungry' external USB devices.

Re: Upgrading to an ssd

Hmmm... So it works fine booting off the ssd with an adaptor cable, but not inside the enclosure? I assume the enclosure has a built in adaptor? That seems to suggest that the cable is compatible with the Pi, but not the enclosure. Can you post a picture of the setup? This'll give me a better idea o...

Yes @neilgl that guide will work as well, just need to skip the step about routing and DNS masquerading because the OP wanted it to be completely independent (i.e. not connected to another network via ethernet)

Re: SpeechRecognition problems

Hmm, it seems to me like quite a few things have been messed up here, apt doesn't seem to be working properly either. I think you'll probably just have to reflash your Pi sd card with a new Raspberry Pi OS, a bit of a hassle but it'll give you a clean sheet to work on. Then try and follow the tutori...

Re: Multiple Applications on fresh Raspberry Pi

I would say if you're doing nextcloud and a docker container (for PhotoPrism) you'd probably be best off using Raspberry Pi OS Lite. This is a smaller image, runs faster as it doesn't have a GUI, and will leave more space for your software. I use Lite on most of my permanent projects and as the Next...

What inputs does your Modi 3 have? Looking at the product page it seems to have a USB input, the Pi might work plugged in that way?
Have you tried connecting the Pi to the Modi in any way?
I'll try and help you further once I know this.

Re: Autostart does not work for me ... neither systemd nor cronjob

Have you tried /etc/rc.local? That normally works for me. All you have to do is open up the file... sudo nano /etc/rc.local Then add the command you want to run to the bottom of the files with an & symbol afterwards, so that it runs in the background. I'm not sure why you're having issues with C...

Re: sending email-alert for special case - when disk space is full

You seem to have worked out how to do the disk space detection, with this function in the code you sent: def getDiskSpace(): p = os.popen("df -h /") i = 0 while 1: i = i +1 line = p.readline() if i==2: return(line.split()[1:5]) Obviously, you'll need the os module imported. In terms of ema...

Yeah, when I flashed a fresh buster and did all the updates, it just wouldn't log me into chromium with my Google account. At the time, I thought it was a one off bug but now I've realised why! It's sad that Google has decided not to support these features; they were really useful. Unless they relea...

You can make your Pi into an access point without a router, it just won't be able to provide internet. This should be fine for VNC access as it doesn't need internet. You would turn the Pi into an access point: https://learn.pi-supply.com/make/how-to-setup-a-wireless-access-point-on-the-raspberry-pi...

Re: turning off

The red LED will always stay on, this is because power is still being sent to the Pi (it's still plugged in). The fan stays on because it's connected to the power pins on the GPIO, and power is still being supplied to it (again, the pi is still plugged in). You can safely turn off your Pi once there...

Re: Upgrading to an ssd

Just to go back to the basics @cincfleet do you have a USB 3 SSD? Or is it an internal one which you have a housing for? I know that Raspberry Pi OS boots fine off USB, especially USB 3 (2 is very slow) but as @procount said, you'll need to have a certain type of operating system for the Pi to boot ...

You might have to do some searching around, I don't know US retailers but if there are any that sell Pi stuff then they might well have the Essentials books.

Re: Can I use a USB micro sd card adapter as my pi’s boot drive?

Agreed @pasdechance this will work, if I remember rightly there might be a setting you have to change to enable USB boot? Correct me if I'm wrong, that might be an old software version.
To the Pi, the MicroSD card adapter will look like a USB storage drive, and Pis support booting over USB.

No, not quite. The samba-common-bin software makes the network share, but the WSDD daemon makes it discoverable by Windows PCs.

Re: RetroPie not showing on Network folder in Win10

WSDD - https://github.com/christgau/wsdd It's software that makes your Pi Samba share, amongst other things, visible to computers (like windows) which use Web Service Discovery. This would fix the issue, but it's more complex to set up and have it start on boot up etc than just installing the featur...

Re: How to get / make sprites for Scratch?

Also, assuming you are on Scratch 3, there is an option in the add sprites button in the sprites palette which lets you pick from a gallery. This is how it works with the web version; I'm assuming it's the same on desktop as it's an Electron app built on web technologies.

Remember that .exe files only run on windows computers, not Linux, unless you set up a compatibility layer like Wine. There might be a way to do something similar on Linux, but I'm not sure.
