Re: SAMBA USB Share.

Thank you. I would like to say that the other post only became about Samba *after* starting over from scratch. And I did report this post, asking that it be locked or something. I'm old. I know the drill. I just don't know all the bits.

Re: SAMBA USB Share.

Wow. That was fast. It usually takes me on the order of days before I start alienating people. If I could figure out how to close this thread, I would have. But since I started completely from scratch using Raspbian, I only felt it prudent to start a new thread in the BEGINNERS category, which is ob...

Yes you have another Samba post in case you have forgotten:
I have not forgotten. I'd have closed that one if I could have figured out how.

Re: Help with RPi back up server.

I'm probably getting ahead of myself, but if I can map the RPi, and use explorer to see the files and structure, should I be able to see the USB drive?

Or is that what Samba's all about and I just haven't made it that far yet?

Thanks, pidd. "You didn't need to specify samba-common-bin separately for install..." Just blindly following a procedure. ;) "Assuming you are on buster, ..." Buster? And lastly here's this: pi@raspberrypi:~ $ systemctl status smbd ● smbd.service - Samba SMB Daemon Loaded: loaded...

"You’ll now be able to find your Raspberry Pi file server (named RASPBERRYPI by default) from any device on your local network."

Re: Help with RPi back up server.

THIS, I think isn't a non-problem:

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ sudo /etc/init.d/samba restart
sudo: /etc/init.d/samba: command not found

I assume a reboot will do the same thing?

Re: Help with RPi back up server.

Thanks a million! I've been pulling my hair out trying to map the Pi (without success) so I need to do something different.

Here's an oddity. The Pi reports it host id as 127.0.1.1 but my router says it's 192.168.0.25

The latter is what works for PuTTY. :?: :?: :?:

SOLVED Help with RPi back up server.

My goal is a Pi-based, WiFi connected server that accepts nightly images from Macrium Reflect. At present, I'm booted up with a fresh, unadulterated image of Raspbian. Is Samba the next step? Can anyone recommend an up-to-date installation guide? Which model Pi 3B+ Which OS you are running Raspbian ...

Re: SAMBA USB Share.

Positive progress! After creating a fresh Boot card, and resolving the dreaded lightening bolt (Why is Bluetooth ON by default?), everything is starting out much better. When I inserted the USB flash drive, the OS responded with ."What do you want to do with this?" It hadn't done that befo...

Re: SAMBA USB Share.

Thank you very kindly. It may be obvious that I posted out of haste and frustration. I have since made some progress, but still have the (Common?) issue of not seeing the USB device in the file system. When I come back, I'll have the details in the orderly method you prescribe, but I've decided that...

Re: SAMBA USB Share.

Ok. After pecking at it long and hard, I back to where I am mapped to the RPi on my Windoze machine. However, I don't see the USB drive even though (I'm reasonably sure) I set that up following several different guides.

Still plugging away...

SAMBA USB Share.

It sounds brain-dead simple. And it is. My problem is I'm brain dead. I installed SAMBA. And following a guide for the galactically stupid, I managed to get as far as creating a folder I could see on my Windoze machine. So far, so good. So the next, and most important step, I need to access a flash ...

Pi not detected on network

"Pi not detected on network"

That's as far as I get. I can find it with Fing. I can verify it with ifconfig.

Got the first hurdle. It wants the URL *VERBATIM*: HTTP:// yadda.yadda

Next, "Request sent to Pi" = no response.
Got it. I have to learn to read the pins differently.

Re: Jacuzzi Automation via WiFi Using The Raspberry Pi 3

Mooneyguy, still around?

I need some help with connection and control of the valve actuators. If you're just doing it with relays (SPDT or DPDT?) and toggling them to turn the valve one way or the other, I guess I got that. But a short write-up would be awesome!

Re: Simple servo control?

Thanks, again. So that;'s what VNC was! I had it set up and working so long ago I had forgotten. I did it to test the WiFi range of the B+ and I'm very impressed with it. Any pointers to a programmable widget that I can place on the Pi's desktop for push-button control? Honestly, I'm a hardware guy....

Re: Simple servo control?

Thanks. But... The servo controller is a HAT (? ). Dead simple, that's why I picked it. It just plugs onto the GPIO header of the Pi, and the servos just plug into the controller board. I obviously obscured my request with confusion. What I'm looking for is an equally dead simple software solution t...
