Re: First (micro-)SD card "failure" in ~10 years!

Update (& a bit more info. w.r.t. the card) 1) It's definitely read-only - couldn't even be "re-formatted" in digital camera's SDXC slot (in an adapter). 2) But I could still decode it's CID with it in the (USB-booting) P400's card slot: pi@raspiP400gPiOS64:~/usdcard_tools-0.0 $ ./src/...

Re: First (micro-)SD card "failure" in ~10 years!

It does not surprise me at all, that the SD card was a Kingston.. If the card is old, you may have exceeded to amounts of safe writes to the memory cells (usually 10k) and if the SD's internal firmware has no wear leveling, that would render the file system unable to properly unmount and thus becom...

Re: First (micro-)SD card "failure" in ~10 years!

Haven't had any fail yet. But it'd be interesting to see the fsck.fat and fsck.ext4 reports for those failed SD partitions. This maybe? pi@raspiP400gPiOS64:/home/trevor $ sudo fsck /dev/sdc2 fsck from util-linux 2.33.1 e2fsck 1.44.5 (15-Dec-2018) fsck.ext4: Read-only file system while trying to ope...

Well it's finally happened! Setup: an 8GB P4B running "Buster" mainly in use by another family member. Partially boots with a "read-only" failure**. Card is a 64GB Kingston Canvas Select Plus in daily use for more than a year (since said Pi replaced another computer that wa...

I have a Pi4 which holds my family tree and runs headless. It runs from a hard drive (no SD card) and I can connect via ethernet or wi-fi. It is up to date. When I set it up it ran for a few months and then failed, when I tried to ssh into it I got "kex_exchange_identification: read: Connectio...

... AIUI it's a little more complex: devices are only supposed to draw a maximum of 100mA until the host has enumerated them (enumeration includes the device telling the host how much power it wants). After that it's 500mA or, presumably, however much the device asked for if less. I doubt many mode...

Hi, I want to get the Battery data of my Solar system, I can read it using Minicon on Raspberry pi connected to the console port of the Pylontech Master battery and it shows in the Terminal window. You don't need to format or partition the card, the imager totally overwrites whatever is present. It's often a "good idea" to select (tick) the "New Partition UUIDs" option 'though.Trev. ok, I'll do that why does that make a difference? Is it because it allows the 2 cards to ex...

Hello, Is it possible to boot a raspberry pi 4 over netowkr, with the .IMG file being on a PC that acts as an IMG server? Re: Won't boot if Keyboard WIFI dongle is plugged in.

Is the bootloader the one that supports network install? Is the keyboard WiFi dongle one that can also be a wireless mouse dongle (IIRC will appear to have two HID's associated)? If so do you also have a wireless mouse in use (which may also use a dongle with both mouse & keyboard support)?

Re: Predicatable Network Names?

The way I think it works is that built-in interfaces use eth0 / wlan0 and removable (USB/SPI etc) interfaces get the "predicatable" names. So your Pi A was presumably using a USB adaptor and got am enp or something name, while the Pi 4s all have on-board fixed interfaces which will be eth...
