Re: Issues with Pi 4 with official touchscreen in Smarti Pi case

OK, that's good to know, kind of. Presumably there's no simple way to reset the panel's microcontroller from the Pi at boot time? (Of course not, Steve, otherwise someone smarter than you would have thought of that already) [fx: internal monologue mode now OFF] Should I be using vc4-kms-v3d instead ...

Re: Issues with Pi 4 with official touchscreen in Smarti Pi case

OK, the plot thickens... After careful examination, the problem appears to be with the Pi4. Not this specific Pi4, but all of the Pi4 boards that I have, and from reading other posts, including in the "Official Touchscreen" topic, a general thing. If I swap out for a Pi 2 or 3, and use the...

Issues with Pi 4 with official touchscreen in Smarti Pi case

Here's my setup: I have a Pi 4B (rev 1.2) with 2GB, fitted into a Smarti Pi Touch Pro case with an official RPi touchscreen. I have an SD card with the latest desktop Buster image and sudo update/upgrade applied as of yesterday (30 Aug 2021). My config.txt contains only [pi4] dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d ...

Re: Dumb question. Is it possible to turn OFF multitouch capability?

Ah, again, my bad. I am not using X, just using the event interface. It's for a GUI app using SDL2, the app is C++ with a custom compiled SDL2 that doesn't need X but does use OpenGL.

I really must follow my own advice and give as much relevant information in the initial post :(

Re: Dumb question. Is it possible to turn OFF multitouch capability?

.. as reading the documentation is ..
Perhaps I should have been more explicit..
I do NOT want to disable the touchscreen, but I do want to disable multitouch, leaving single touch functionality.

To be fair, I didn't actually state that clearly in my original post.

Dumb question. Is it possible to turn OFF multitouch capability?

Subject says it all. Is there a way with the official display to turn off multi-touch, hence disabling gestures?

Re: kedei HDMI screen w/ touch not working as expected with kernel 5.10

Much appreciated. I do have a couple of non-Pi linux machines, but they are desktop boxes, which I use with a standard monitor. I will look into the custom modes via xrandr and see if it helps. Am I correct in thinking that I'd need a cvt line in config.txt as well, to tell xrandr that the mode is s...

Re: kedei HDMI screen w/ touch not working as expected with kernel 5.10

Indeed. What is worrying is that I have quite a few HDMI screens that require a custom mode to work with a Pi, mainly 5" and 3.5", and that means that I probably won't be able to use them with KMS.

Re: kedei HDMI screen w/ touch not working as expected with kernel 5.10

Unfortunately, while the EDID is "valid", it does not include the mode 480x320. This is a little bit annoying, since that seems to be what the screen was designed for. It comes up in 1280x720 (display has a scaler). This is an improvement, since previously, when using a custom mode it didn...

Re: kedei HDMI screen w/ touch not working as expected with kernel 5.10

The display doesn't seem to support GTF, only CVT, according to the EDID parser. Using the kms overlay, I cannot get it to drive the display correctly, while without it, the custom mode is fine. Looks like I will end up NOT using the display, which is a shame, since it fits on top of the Pi quite ni...

kedei HDMI screen w/ touch not working as expected with kernel 5.10

As the subject line says, I have a HDMI screen w/ touch. The screen's native resolution is allegedly 480x320. I have the following lines in my config.txt: hdmi_ignore_edid=0x15000080 hdmi_force_hotplug=1 hdmi_cvt=480 320 60 0 0 0 hdmi_group=2 hdmi_mode=87 hdmi_force_mode=1 So far, so good. When I bo...

Re: Is an updated driver (for kernel 5.10.x) available for Seeed 2-mic respeaker hat?

After a lot of digging about, I found that WaveShare have a WM8690 based hat, which uses drivers that seem to work fine on 5.10.17, and I am now happily playing with Picovoice.

Never thought I'd have a speech-to-intent system on a Pi Zero - I am mightily impressed!

Is an updated driver (for kernel 5.10.x) available for Seeed 2-mic respeaker hat?

I am looking at picovoice (nothing to do with the Pico!) on a Pi4, but when I come to install the driver for the respeaker board, it doesn't build for the current released kernel.
Is there an updated version available anywhere? I really *don't* want to drop back to 5.4 if I can avoid it.

Re: Smart pi touch problems

If you are not using the standard image, then the most likely cause is that you have a kernel that does not include driver support for the touchscreen. This means you will need to rebuild the kernel, enabling that support (as pointed out by 6x9). You should make sure that your /lib/modules/{kernel v...

Re: Why is e(acute) being converted to ? by iconv?

Well, I have French and English, as UTF-8 and ISO locales. Since iconv as a command line manages, I should have everything installed I need. It isn't just the aforementioned singer, as the MP3 files (painstakingly ripped over years) include Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian and German artists. Ho...

Why is e(acute) being converted to ? by iconv?

Hi. I have a little MP3 player app on a Pi Zero with a small OLED on it (the Waveshare 1.3" OLED hat). As none of the fonts support anything but ASCII (32-126), if I try and display the ID3v2 tags and they happen to have accented characters, then obviously, they don't display correctly. So, I t...

Re: startx or xinit requires root since Release 2020-05-27

At the very least, I can confirm the same problem as the original poster. Touching .xauth did not fix it. But (he typed, sticking his head firmly above the parapet), this isn't then the 27-05-2020 release, since it's a lite release with other stuff added. Could it be something as simple as the pi u...

Hi When you say "this" do you mean the NFC module? If so, then yes you can, if you have male to female jumper cables, it's fairly straightforward, although a bit fiddly if, like me, your manual dexterity isn't everything it should be. On the other hand, if you mean the camera, then no. You...

Re: hdmi_cvt corrupt my SD card so no boot

Alternatively if using a Pi4 or other Pi with the KMS driver enabled, add "disable_firmware_kms_setup=1" to config.txt and then the kernel parsing of the EDID has a greater chance of producing a mode that actually works. Interesting. I noticed that when using the KMS driver, tvservice has...

g++/gcc flags for different models of Pi

Each model (well, mostly) of Pi uses a different SOC. Is there a list somewhere which says what -march -mtune and -mfpu values are most appropriate for each one? Seems counter-intuitive, but I would like to have model-specific binaries for some of the things running on some of my machines. Since I h...

Official touchscreen not "entirely" supported by SDL2.

I have built SDL2 (for kmsdrm support where there is no X), it has libudev evdev and tslib enabled. I discovered that it has the same issue I have run into before with the FT5406. I am getting spurious multiple touches. Fortunately, because finger ID is present, I can handle the "first" fi...

Re: No mosquitto.h file even if mosquitto-dev is installed

Great!

Many thanks Dougie.
One concern is whether that means the executable I create depends on a specific library version (too long developing on Windows), although since it is for internal stuff only, I could apply the same changes to the apt configuration files anyway.

Cheers
