Re: Add/Remove Software

Another extremely useful tool is "man", short for "manual". Try this in terminal: man man Some manpages can be cryptic, very heavy going if you're not a dev, but whenever you're confused about something like this it's an easy first-place-to-look. If you're considering modifying s...

Re: act_led_trigger=> question

This thread is getting a bit off-topic, methinks. I don't know of a way to make the on-board ACT LED react to USB access, but there is a way to get a GPIO pin to do that, it's called WiringPi, and Drogon has updated it (Gordon Henderson IIRC). I am indebted to salocinx (Nicolas Baumgardt) for this i...

Try different drivers under different protocols, that is , try the driverless option, the IPP option, etc. But if CUPS didn't find it for you automatically you are probably out of luck.

Yes, this is old news, in particular the JMicro chipset has been giving us fits. Unfortunately it's one of the cheapest available so very popular. Also unfortunately, enclosure or adapter manufacturers don't disclose what chip they choose, and to make things worse change it without changing model nu...

Well, I have my Brother MFC working, but be ware: firstly, it might not be possible at all with yours; and secondly, by trying to install the Brother driver you may well have bollixed (or is it bolluxed? Trouble with these technical terms) the whole shebang, possibly easiest to reinstall the OS. Esp...

Re: Best 3D printer for printing a case

3d printing is still in its infancy. That is to say that printing is still an art, however much science might be involved, so that you must spend many hours learning how to make it work right before you can just "print a case". After two years I still make mistakes, sometimes lethal (for t...

Re: No green LED, no HDMI signal, no boot

I would start with the power supply, if possible try another. The Pi4 needs a GOOD supply. If possible, put your uSD card in a friend's Pi and plug it in with your power supply, that would be a definitive test. I fried one once by dropping a piece of metal on the GPIO pins, oops! There is a cover fo...

Re: Unable to enumerate USB device

I've been having similar problems with a near-new Pi4B-8, whenever I hotplug either a USB card reader or a USB microscope. As a workaround I simply plug them in before powerup, but yes, it would be nice to have an elegant solution, at least for the card reader. The microscope (Plugable 250x USB micr...

Good News and Bad News

Good news: I saw at least one mention of supporting USB-MSD booting on this (1.5.4) image but it seemed the heavy devs haven't the time, which I understand completely! I got it to work in exactly the same way I did the RPiOS-64, and using the same downloads. https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewto...

Hello, is it possible to include the beta of Raspberry Pi OS 64 bits on Noobs to install and use it on SSD please. Ubuntu 20.04 on Noobs would also be very pleasant for the users that we are, while waiting a bios with a 100% functional boot on USB. Regards. All these things will probably happen-- w...

Yup, apparently I missed that. So the question is, what is knute actually trying to fix? Is his Pi not booting from usb?

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 USB mass storage beta (beta means it not ready yet, and not officially released!)

This whole shebang happened in a very timely manner for me! I'd just purchased a new Pi4 with the goal of setting up an SSD-based system when I saw this. Beta or no, I just had to do it. A few observations: Test-booting from the same uSD card I'd just flashed and modified, put in a card-reader in a ...

This is what it looks like connected to an external signal generator:

Note the spikes are now negative, probably because the generator puts out a large DC component.

Re: RPi4 won't run PC-based oscilloscopes, kernel bug?

Well, I don't see the problem on my Pi3b+, using the same Labrador board. It's altogether too possible that the two simply aren't compatible. Maybe the Pi4 lacks a filter on the usb-c power line? At this point all I can do is guess. And since I now have my Hantek 6022BL up and running on the Pi4 I'm...
