Re: Create a background job

Normally I'd suggest asking the author of the guide/tutorial but given the superficial nature of it... The obvious problem with that guide, and be aware that I've not tested it, is that the service depends on multi-usr.target to launch an application that appears to require the desktop. multi-user.t...

Re: Raspberry PI Magic Packet to turn Windows on.

Wonderful info guys / gals. However, I cannot find a way to do it directly through an ethernet cable. Specifically, one plugged into my pi to send a DIRECT signal into the PC, therefore turning it on. Any more tips on that? What rpdom said. Wake on Lan operates at a low level in the OSI model. Ther...

Re: Pi to Pi via Ethernet

I have a rather curious question. I have a Raspberry Pi 3 and Pi 4 and an ethernet cable laying around. I use my Pi 3 for GPIO circuit control and my Pi 4 for my programming and general computer purposes mainly. Is it possible to hook my Pi 3 to my Pi 4 directly via the ethernet cable and access da...

Re: NFS connection problems need help

my exports /secam 10.0.0.40/24(rw,sync,no_subtree_check) I'm not an expert but that looks broken. 10.0.0.40 is the IP address for a single machine. Adding /24 should make it into a subnet but those are usually listed as 10.0.0.0/24 or 10.0.0.0/255.255.255.0. I use the latter form. This is my fstab ...

Re: Request: Hardware crypto extensions

Why should every user pay for something he/she does not need? Why don't you simply add a TPM module? I'm not sure that a TPM would help. AIUI TPMs are for secure key storage, management and generation not for general crypto acceleration. Even with a TPM you still need to do the actual en/decryption...

Isn't/Wasn't there "secret" connections under the SD socket that appeared to be a spare USB?
Do you mean on a 4B? I'd not heard that but those are most likely test points connected to one of the known USB controllers and not an extra port.

Re: How to mount a network drive on startup?

I have successfully been able to mount this drive manually after boot up in the terminal using the following command. sudo mount -t cifs -o guest //wdmycloud.local/public /home/pi/MyNas I would like to add this to one of the script files that run on startup after the network has been connected. whi...

Re: Could PIO handle USB protocols?

PIO is a feature of the Pico not of the 4B. Whether it can handle USB data I have no idea. If it can, something running on the Pico will have to intercept then examine each USB packet and take apropriate action which may involve spoofing packets back to the host. Now, here's a thing: g_mass_storage....

Re: Error Msg at startup

Ask yourself this question:
"What did I change last before this error started occuring?"

Until we know the answer to that all we can do is guess. And I for one am not going to do so.

Re: Security Systems

I'm with both kerry_s and Heater. Without knowing what you want to secure and from what threats or attacks it's hard to make a useful comment. That said, like kerry_s I tend to rely on the standard Linux/Unix secrity model used correctly. That's restricted access to sudo (only users who need it and ...

Re: PulseAudio as root - why not?

Two suggestions: Ask the owner of that github repo. See the official PulseAudio documentation . Oh, and you appear to be missing something about multiple users: ther are around 40 users on a default RPiOS system. Most of those don't have home directories and are not permitted login access but all ca...

Re: I need to access raspberry pi from anywhere

Would VNC via their web offering work? Never tried it internationally or via blocked security but it would be safer than opening everything up via a VPN. It's been a while since I've looked into VNC but I'm far from certain that I'd expose a VNC server (on a Pi or anything else) directly to the pub...

Re: DVD Playback on RPi4

It's been disabled by default on every Pi model. AIUI enabling ti would have made it difficult (or impossible) to hit the $35 pricepoint due to licensing fees. but its been disabled even more on the pi4, the support has been removed from the firmware and you cant purchase a mpeg2 key for the 4 Yes....

Re: chassis for Pi 4 with front USB and standard SD slot

I can think of no reason why not and with the correct/default settings in the EEPROM it should even be bootable. Yes, but in my view the second card not being a boot source is a feature not a limitation, as its intended use would be for accessing cards shared with other devices. If the contents of ...

Re: Pi zero as an Input device

HID keyboards and HID gamepads are not the same thing.

You need to find (or write) a library for HID gamepad rather than trying to use a HID keyboard one.

I'm unable to help with that as I've not done any gamepad stuff.

So you're wanting to use your Pi for two purposes: To get around your employer's firewall and fiters To get around geolocation issues forr an overseas computer.
