Re: mosquitto service doesn't work?

You'll see the difference with sudo netstat -tlnp | grep 1883 You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. Thank you. That did it. Things are now connecting as they should again. I'm not sure why that wouldn't be the default, or prominently documented for people who used previous versions that "ju...

Re: mosquitto service doesn't work?

I had a bit of time before work this morning to set up anther pi on latest buster. While doing that I noticed that my long-time use pi is still on stretch. Could that be part of the problem? From the problem stretch pi on 192.168.1.132 running "mosquitto version 2.0.11" to the newly config...

Re: mosquitto service doesn't work?

Thanks. I use Perl a lot. It's like a Swiss Army knife Looks like my problem was an old version of Net-MQTT-Simple. Updated to Net-MQTT-Simple-1.26 and that debug script starts working - as does all the perl code running on the pi. Now the ESP8266's running the lights can't connect! Using https://pu...

Solved: mosquitto service doesn't work?

Hi, I've had a pi running 24*7 for a long time. It's fully up to date and has had a mosquitto server for years controlling my home made Christmas lights. I needed to test out some lighting using it and the service status looked fine - but it didn't seem to have anything actually running Running the ...

/var/log out of space - not sure how to fix it! [Fixed]

Hi All, I have a pi with an attached hard disk, and I thought everything was running from it....but lighttpd keeps crashing with no space to write logs. Please can someone help me work out how to change so that /var/logs is on the hard drive where there's lots of space? I really am not sure what's g...

Ok - it's at an angle. Looks fine to me. I'd be happy to get that one. If you don't want it you can sent it to me if you like.

I can also help with one of the jokes:

Re: Forum and sub-section naming

The "path" to where you are is at the top of every forum page, so I don't see why that should be confusing. And, indeed, adding "Pico" to the thread name is redundant. But that's not shown when looking at the "New Posts" page..... PeterO +1 on this from me. I use the &...

Re: New product Announcement!

Exciting to see a new product. I've used a variety of microcontrollers in the past - MSP430 where really low power was needed, arduino & clones for fairly simple things, and ESP8266 & ESP32 for less simple things - or where Wifi was needed. Other than brand loyalty to the Foundation (which I...

Is there a way to buy just the pi board and for the person with this problem not have to replace the whole keyboard?

Re: Pi 400 broke already?

This is why I said previously that it would be sensible for the Pi 400 boards to be made available to buy "stand alone" so that people making this mistake could replace it and not have to buy another keyboard. It would reduce plastic waste and also allow other people to make other variatio...

I have this cam/mic and this monitor/speaker on order, will report when they arrive and I can install them.
I got one. The video goes through the usb and the microphone seems only to go through the jack - so you seem to need a cheapie usb sound card to get that in. Seems OK for the money.

Pity there isn't a Pi-branded monitor, speaker/headphone, mic and camera set for this -- maybe next week?
Those things would complete the package for me.

I asked earlier in the thread if there were recommended mic and camera - but didn't see any response. I think I was last post on a page!

A USB webcam is a much better bet for that use case and can have a much longer cable as well.
Do you have recommendations for a reasonably cheap model with microphone?

With that and a usb sound card....we should be able to use Zoom?
