Re: anyone compile Etcher or Rufus for Raspiban? - arm?

Maybe this is just preference but i find dd much quicker and it allows settings etcher will not like the block size. Just dealing with compressed images is a bit of a pain (there are a few decompression tools which support streaming i guess but meh).

Re: Why moving to 64bit?

Does this not happen on 32-bit? Yeah, only happening with 16 bit textures. Changing to 32 bit textures fixes it but makes flickering effekts appear as solid color. I suspect that rendering problems on Manjaro are largely specific to that distro, not 64-bit per se. I've still been unable to run Dolp...

if it is possible to sell mains cable to Hi-Fi nutters at £25 per 0.25 metres (https://www.hificollective.co.uk/catalog/neotech-mains-cable-nep-3160.html), a $299 RPi4B 8 Gbyte doesn't appear too outrageous. Then try it and report back. You will probably need to underclock + undervolt quite a bit to get temps down.

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 overheat : why not underclocking a little ?

As said above the fear is not heat damage but throttling. You won't get everything out of it when it can't hold the clock rate without going >80°C. I would not let it run at around 80 if it's a 24/7 Pi either but that's personal preference.

Re: Can i upgrade LPDDR4 4GB or 8GB form RPi4 (2GB)?

In theory you can replace it with a good hot air rework station, lots of flux and a properly reballed LPDDR4 chip with the matching pinout and layout. But it needs to be supported on the software side aswell and besides all this why? 8 GB maybe for some rare, extreme use case but 16? You don't need ...

Get a fan for the Pi 4. It can reach throttling if under full load. In a closed case it will definitely.

Re: Why moving to 64bit?

I presume that all the people talking about wanting 64bit OS are keeping a close eye on our Linux repo. I do keep an eye on changes to the Linux fork. We did find some odd results with window compositing prior to Pi4 release, cannot remember if we ever determined the bottleneck. So it is a driver b...

Re: Why moving to 64bit?

Has this been observed anywhere else yet? Enabling window compositing seems to slow graphics down by a lot . Especially noticeable through high rendering lag. I think Raspian suffers from the same problem but since lxde takes basically nothing it's not so noticeable. But on xfce on a full 64 bit OS ...

Did no before after test either but these heatsink enclosures seem to not block BT/WiFi much if at all. WiFi signal strength seems to be similar to other devices in the same room.

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Heatsink vs Fan vs Flirc Case

I have seen these heatsink cases with fan and always wondered where the fans suck/blow air from/to? Is there a hole in the heatsink or are the fans mounted in such a way so there is a gap between them and the heatsink? These tiny fans must be pretty noisy. I have a case without the fans and recently...

Re: Why moving to 64bit?

Yeah, not saying it will never happen. There will be no choice as software eventually moves away from 32 bit but a few missing/broken packages is not reason enough yet (at least for RPiF/T). In my opinion it's totally worth it but there may still be bugs or you have to fiddle with settings to workar...

Re: Why moving to 64bit?

If you wanna use a 64 bit distro use one of the unofficial ones. Don't count on Raspian 64 bit any time soon. I switched to one recently and got most issues solved now. Running pretty good and having the familar xfce de is a bonus. On a side note: Firefox is now beating Chromium from Raspian and run...

Re: Possible to add GLES EXT_buffer_storage driver support to Videocore VI on the Pi4?

Not sure what you're running but my Gentoo 64 build runs fine in the desktop environment and Firefox. Firefox isn't on par with Chromium on Raspbian but it's fast and responsive in everything but youtube playback. Manjaro ARM. And turns out it was window compositing slowing everything down. Now it'...

Re: Possible to add GLES EXT_buffer_storage driver support to Videocore VI on the Pi4?

Your Firefox lag problems may be more software-specific than something intrinsic to VC6. Chromium runs WebGL demos 3x faster than Firefox and it's hardly implemented efficiently. It's not FF. It's the entire desktop environment. There is no way it can run GC games fullspeed with the current driver....

Re: Possible to add GLES EXT_buffer_storage driver support to Videocore VI on the Pi4?

Well, i would not get my hopes up Dolphin will run at even remotely playable speeds with the current driver. On 64 bit kernel + userland there seem to be performance issues generally right now to the point where GPU rendering lags behind a few hundred milliseconds (noticeable in many places in the d...

While I'm not an expert, it is notable that wireguard --the fast, modern, secure VPN tunnel--avoids AES entirely. Wireguard instead employs chacha20 from the danceable-name family of cyphers. Not an expert either but i'm sceptical if this is as secure as they say. Curve 25519 is proven secure and t...

Lead free is only needed to meet RoHs conformity which i don't think is needed in schools (unless they want to sell stuff built with it). Headless you will be fine with the 1 GB model. If you can go for nginx instead. It's faster and less bloated than Apache.

I paid like 11€ for a 64GB A1 from SanDisk which i could not believe when i saw it. I did not plan to buy it but when i ordered the Pi 4 i was just 10€ under free shipping so this was a perfect fit :D In the end i think this was a good choice since i have no other A1 rated card.

As someone in the comments of the blogpost pointed out there seems to be support for command queue already which makes me wonder what is going on? https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/bl ... st/cqhci.c

Is that driver not stable yet? Is it exclusively for eMMC?
