Re: JAVA - What if method grabs lock then exits without calling monitor.leave()?

If you are not using any other features of Monitor class - why are you just not using built in 'synchronized' keyword in method declaration or as a block around your data access?

Re: Problem Installing Eclipse

Yes. It is called IntelliJ. But, again - it depends what kind of version you pick. It is similar to ... - pick "wrong" (deliberately under quotation marks) Linux distro with "wrong" windows/deskrop/whatever manager and you'll tell me Linux is bloated, bad OS and Windows 10 is the...

Re: How many RPI do you need?

I am not answering your question directly... Friend of mine asked me more or less a year ago how many Raspberry Pis I *have*. When not answered for more than 3 seconds, he rephrased himself to: "Do you have more or less than 20"... At that point I made myself go and record all of them alon...

Re: Raspberry Pi OS 64bit (beta) + Pi3 A+ and kswapd0

Short update - same SD works on Pi3 B+... It looks like that beta version of 64bit OS cannot run desktop (no applications started!) on 512MB at the moment. To recap: freshly burnt SD card boots up on 0.5GB memory Pi3, but cannot go through update. Even when update is done on 1GB (or bigger) RAM Rasp...

Raspberry Pi OS 64bit (beta) + Pi3 A+ and kswapd0

Not 100% sure if it is related to the 64bit OS or in general to current version of Raspberry Pi OS but I am struggling with swap on slow SD card on Pi3 A+ (512MB RAM)... I'm trying to run one graphics app on it only (not use it as general purpose computer) but never got that far, yet... First I noti...

Re: Problem Installing Eclipse

Eclipse is pretty big and bloated Eclipse used to be thought of as the light-weight alternative to Netbeans, i guess it was only a matter of time before it tried to catch up (it would be impossible to overtake Netbeans for bloatiness). I used to really like Eclipse but then I got the Netbeans bug, ...

Re: Turn on/off Raspberry Pi 3 remotely

I had similar setup when I went on holiday and wanted to have as robust solution as possible so: - I wired two RPi (I think RPi1 and RPi2) to network - powered one through regular micro USB connected to power socket always and - powered Pi2 through DC-2-DC from 9V 3.5 jack which was going through - ...

How much of changes ended up back in main platform repo? Would it be possible building complete original Eclipse for Java Developers with your changes, too?

Depending on your level of skills you could drive stepper motors directly by DMA from RPi as Brian did here:

Power supply for various Pis

Just to quickly share something - I started being fed up of hunting for yet another charger (and a free power socket on my desk) when I connect another Raspberry Pi on my desk and recently got Anker's power supply for my Pi4 kubernetes cluster (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08CB22NT3) and tha...

Quite correct. Reason more to invest some time to run PWM version of software for fan shim (or similar).

I'll try to stay away from (more interesting) topic of cooking vs frying eggs on RPi CPU, but... Re: STICKY: Raspberry Pi OS (64 bit) beta test version feedback

An updated .IMG has been released: Does this contain the MMAL/VNC Server issue? I'm here because I unwittingly did an update last night and lost my VNC connect which is the only way I can access the GUI (the RPi 4/8Gb is on a server rack). Trying to ssh the fix didn't work. So a clean VNC compatibl...

This is interesting: 8GB RPi, X-windows with KDE and one terminal window open - cannot allocate more than 6.3GiB (heap is set to 8GiB). Also, JDK13 and JDK14 just bomb out with 'Killed' and no other indication why Java process stopped. Here's the output of above program: ... Allocated 3800MiB, total...

Re: My Thoughts on Using a Raspberry PI 4 8GB as a Desktop Replacement

MicroSD vs. USB Relying on a MicroSD card for anything other than booting is asking for trouble. They weren’t designed to be a general purpose I/O device. The fact that they work as well as they do on an RP4 is a miracle. I know that Raspberry Pi OS and the RP4 firmware have recently been updated t...
