Re: Confused about serial port names...

So I have to add the disabling of BT to my setup instructions for the system. if you instead use enable_uart=1 and always use /dev/serial0, it will automatically use the correct uart, without having to force bt to be off Well, I already had the enable_uart=1 in the config file on both but the RPi4 ...

Re: Confused about serial port names...

I would like to know if the device /dev/ttyAMA0 can be assumed to be the one connected to the GPIO header pins GPIO14 and GPIO15? where ttyAMA0 and ttyS0 go, depends on if you have bluetooth enabled, and the overlay to swap the serial ports while keeping bt on thats exactly what /dev/serial0 is for...

Re: Confused about serial port names...

Since the replies here dried up I will try once more by refreshing the thread... I would like to know if the device /dev/ttyAMA0 can be assumed to be the one connected to the GPIO header pins GPIO14 and GPIO15? This is after the Linux console has been disabled in the raspi-config menu while enabling...

Re: Confused about serial port names...

Raspberry Pi documentation: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/uart.md OK, so I scanned the documentation page and found nothing that makes me understand the solution to my issue. Linux devices on Raspberry Pi OS: Linux device Description /dev/ttyS0 mini UART /dev/ttyAMA0 first...

Confused about serial port names...

I have several Raspberry Pi units of various levels of hardware (RPi2-RPi3-RPi4). I am writing a piece of software intended to be run as a controller and using a serial port. This can be connected either via an USB/Serial adapter or using the built-in serial port when there is a level converter boar...

Re: How to customize VNC session timeout?

So I found this old thread in "Projects/Networking and servers" where it is explained...

Apparently one has to use the GUI to configure the item, which is not what I expected on Linux.
Now changed, so I have to wait a while to see if it now leaves the connection up longer.

How to customize VNC session timeout?

I am using VNC when accessing all of my RPi units which have a full Raspbian install (obviously not possible on units installed with the Lite server style image). When I have a session active on my Windows 10 PC and leave for a break, then very often when I return the session has timed out and disco...

Solved: Why is svn not saving my password in Pi-OS?

It seems like I have found a solution to this now. Edit the ~/.subversion/config file Uncomment the following line: password-stores = gpg-agent,gnome-keyring,kwallet Now (at least after a reboot) the login request is shown in the terminal from which the svn command was started. If it actually saves ...

Solved: How to avoid GUI login dialog on SVN terminal operations?

It seems like I have found a solution to this now.
Edit the ~/.subversion/config file
Uncomment the following line:

Code: Select all

password-stores = gpg-agent,gnome-keyring,kwallet
Now (at least after a reboot) the login request is shown in the terminal from which the svn command was started.

How to avoid GUI login dialog on SVN terminal operations?

I have been using a lot of RPi devices with various levels of Raspbian operating systems since 2012. Mostly my devices are using the Lite images since they are almost exclusively used as controllers. I have regularly used Subversion in order to handle software sources and it has worked seamlessly. I...

Re: Can apache on rpi4 serve markdown documents?

I got it working now except for the style sheet, which I downloaded from github separately. The problem is that I have a lot of RPi code samples in my md documents and these are written within backtick markers ( ``` ) like this example: Alt 2: Edit files manually (works on all Linux machines): ``` s...

So you hadn't even bothered looking at DougieLawson's suggestion, then.
Yes, I had.
But the instructions on github were not full so I did not know how to go about it.
With the Stack Overflow answer the way to install it became clear.
Incomplete suggestion, at least for a dummie like me...

I was advised by my son-in-law to have a look at this stack overflow thread and lo-and-behold there was a stepwise instruction on how to create and install a markdown module in apache2! Re: Can apache on rpi4 serve markdown documents?

It looks like there's a mod_perl2 handler -- a trivial google will find it -- which will render the thing before sending it to the browser, which should do what you want for reading. Otherwise, try a Wiki engine: most of them use a variant of it. By what I can see mod_perl2 is a module that makes A...

Re: Can apache on rpi4 serve markdown documents?

Revitalizing this thread again since I am now overwhelmed with a lot of new md files where I keep notes/instructions/howtos on my laptop. I can open them in Firefox using URL:s pointing to the local file system. It works reasonably with the MD plug-in to Firefox, but it is a PITA to have to add file...

Re: How do I stop a script started from 'at'?

Why does this run for 6 hours anyway? You trying to download a livestream or something like that? The 6 hours is a max time for youtube-dl as far as I can see, it is not something I have set. So when I could not stop it after starting via at, I waited until the 6h had passed and sure enough it stop...

Re: How do I stop a script started from 'at'?

Find PID of your process from "ps aux" and then "kill -SIGINT PIDgoeshere" killall also works without the ps step but you need to be careful with the name or you'll send signals to the wrong processes. There are multiple related PID. My script calls youtube-dl, which probably ca...

How do I stop a script started from 'at'?

I have a script that simplifies a command for downloads I often use. Now I wanted to start it at a selected time in the middle of the night, so I used the at command to set it up to start at the early time. The script when executed in a command window, like PuTTY from Windows to RaspberryPi, runs un...

OK, I have sent back a number of questions to sales about this. I also did not really understand what they are worried about concerning the WiFi, so they have to expand on that. But one part of this might be a concern about someone duplicating the system illegally and here I think the only remedy is...

How to secure RPi device WiFi access?

We are looking at using an RPi4 as the controller of a system which we want to lock down to avoid piracy. Now the question has arisen if there is some way we can configure the WiFi (the RPi will act as an access point) such that the SSID and the passphrase would not be stored in clear text in any co...

I have googled and found a page where they suggested Ctrl-A X, but that does not work. In the end I unplugged the modem from the RPi USB an...
