Waveshare spotpear 3.5 inch touch screen help!
I've just recently gotten into the rpi scene, and bought a touch screen but am having trouble hooking it up. I can't find any more info about the screen I bought other then it's price and where to buy. How do I know what I need to do to install?

Surely if WaveShare sell the item then they should support it

Re: Waveshare spotpear 3.5 inch touch screen help!
AFAICT notro's drivers now support this screen on the Pi2.m4chineHEAD wrote:im stuck with this problem too 3.2 inch screen v4 but driver is only for b+ model not rpi 2

Re: Waveshare spotpear 3.5 inch touch screen help!
Grab the raspbian image from the downloads page and write the image to an SD card.PeterMaslin wrote:wow good find , got to see if i can find a way of getting that as a full image and installing it.
Pop it in the Pi, boot and then use rpi-update to install the firmware + drivers (https://github.com/notro/rpi-firmware#install)
NB: somewhere I saw a remark from notro that touch may not be working yet.

Re: Waveshare spotpear 3.5 inch touch screen help!
White screen with nothing else.
I have installed the OS from the disk that come with the screen and also downloaded a previous OS for the V3 screen.
I have also ensured that the ribbon cable on the back of the screen has been correctly fitted and pushed into its connector correctly.

Have you tried notro's firmware I linked to above (http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt ... 66#p698297)?Hg wrote:White screen with nothing else.

So did you guys manage to get this working 100% ? With touch under GUI as well ?
I am thinking of buying this lcd since v4 sounds better than v3 (lol)....but want to be sure first.
Thanks
ps: I found this thread here about this screen:

Dont speak German, but i guess they managed to get it working properly.

Re: Waveshare spotpear 3.5 inch touch screen help!
I still have had no joy in this.
What i think is needed is for someone who has successfully got it to work to create an Image of their install share it

Did you actually try to get the notro driver running as I suggested above?Hg wrote:I still have had no joy in this.

Re: Waveshare spotpear 3.5 inch touch screen help!
For the current notro firmware to work you need to make some mods, see http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt ... 35#p700475DirkS wrote:Did you actually try to get the notro driver running as I suggested above?Hg wrote:I still have had no joy in this.

BTW: These are not just for Pi2

I've got WaveShare 3.2 v4 working with notro drivers and instructions from

Let me know if anyone need the image. I confirm everything works.

Re: Waveshare spotpear 3.5 inch touch screen help!
I have a waveshare spotpear v3 3.2 inch touch lcd, and ive been trying to make this darn thing work for the last few days on either my pi B (Non plus version) or my new pi 2. I have read many pages and followed many steps to no avail. I even tried to use the pre-built OS' out there and couldn't find any that would work or even boot.
FINALLY I managed to get this working on my pi 2 and its all pretty much thanks to notro!
1) download and install the 16/2/2015 version of raspbian (Wheezy)
2) plug it in to the pi and boot up
3) configure your network connection
4) enable ssh and do most of the following commands through this, so you can copy & paste commands from the below links
5) upgrade the pi (sudo apt-get update & audo apt-get upgrade)
5) power down the pi and take a copy of this using win32 or equivalent (Try me, it'll save time!)
6) boot the pi backup with the card, ensure to enable
7) get notres kernel by running the following command: sudo REPO_URI=https://github.com/notro/rpi-firmware rpi-update
NOTE: I found on some sites the same command, but had an extra variable(?) that provided an exclusion and this was preventing my pi to boot afterwards.
8) reboot the pi: sudo reboot
9) follow the commands (Notice some of it is already done): http://www.circuitbasics.com/setup-lcd- ... pberry-pi/
10) You should have a working touch screen pi

Re: Waveshare spotpear 3.5 inch touch screen help!
The latest firmware/kernel in the Foundations repository now has Notro's fbtft. So change this tomoak wrote:7) get notres kernel by running the following command: sudo REPO_URI=https://github.com/notro/rpi-firmware rpi-update

Re: Waveshare spotpear 3.5 inch touch screen help!
Im having no luck what so ever. I've got a RP2 and the same 3.2 v4 screen. Unfortunately I'm having no joy.r3dsm0k3 wrote:I've got WaveShare 3.2 v4 working with notro drivers and instructions from

I've followed the tutorial from scratch 3 times and I keep getting a Kernel panic on boot.
Can @r3dsm0k3 or anyone please provide a link to an updated image for the RP2 that works. It would be much appreciated. Or some clues as to what I could be doing wrong.
Cheers, rEEzA
Re: Waveshare spotpear 3.5 inch touch screen help!
The fbtft modules are now part of the Raspberry Pi Foundations kernel. It is not in the Raspbian repository as yet (as far as I know). Simply use:-reeza wrote:Can @r3dsm0k3 or anyone please provide a link to an updated image for the RP2 that works.
