Solution for Jessie and Florence virtual keyboard crash.

I just updated to Jessie and my touchscreen keyboard, florence (yes, that is what you need to apt-get) stopped working - touch a key and everything related to florence vanished off the screen.

The fix is simple:

Thanks for this. It worked for me, although I was getting double key presses until I switched the input method to Mouse (from Touch screen) in the Florence settings.

Yeah, I should have mentioned that, sorry - I found the same - the "Touch" doesn't work well, but "Mouse" works perfectly

I haven't - I always need my mouse to minimize Florence - I haven't tried it for a while though - I must have another go.

I have searched the forum for a related issue and this is the only one close.

My issue: I have set up a Pi3 and a 7" touchscreen which boots into the desktop then into Chromium with various flags set, including the --kiosk mode and a Google calendar. It displays nicely but I want to interact with the calendar so need a touch keyboard.

I've tried Matchbox and was considering Florence, but what I need is the keyboard to pop up when I tap into a text field, as though I were clicking into that field. I don't mind manually hiding it post text entry, but having the keyboard pop up is key.

Have you managed to crack that, or could you perhaps point me somewhere where I can dig out some additional info, please?

Florence is the "closest" I've found to that functionality. It does not pop up when you type but there is a persistent icon on the screen that you can use to show/hide the keyboard. I moved the icon to the bottom left corner of my screen, since the bottom left corner of almost everything doesn't have anything you need to click on.

I hope that helps a little. I found Florence much easier to use than Matchbox because of the show/hide feature.

Annoyingly, the touchscreen was working but after some update or software instal I did I, haven't been able to get it working again, subsequently.

This also works for Raspbian Stretch.
Florence would open but crash when anything was pressed.
Installing at-spi2-core fixed the issue (didn't even need to reboot).

This fix STILL works in 2020. Exact same description of the problem as the OP. Matchbox is unacceptable to many users, so we should really try to repair the dependencies of this five years on.

I am using rasbian buster, and i have sticky keys. especially the shift and ctrl keys. if i press those they won't return to their normal state but keep pressed. this makes it quite unusable. Also when i type, (it sometimes goes well) i often get multiple letters of the same key. is there something i can do to improve the reaction speed of florence?
