Pins usage while connected to a display

Tue Sep 21, 2021 5:11 am

Hi,

I have a question related to the following scenario:
- I plan to connect Pico to a dedicated LCD screen manufactured for Pico.

The vendor says that other pins can be used since the LCD screen is not using all of them.
However I don't see how could I use those pins since they are all into their respective sockets
To be better understood I refer to this particular item I would like to buy:
https://www.waveshare.com/wiki/Pico-ResTouch-LCD-2.8

The reason I try to use the other available pins is because I want to provide wireless connectivity using an ESP-01.
I would greatly appreciate your help on this matter.

Thank you

Looking at the PCB there appears to be solder pads next to the socket for the pins not used by the LCD. You can solder wires to those pads which can then go to your additional circuitry.

An alternative is to build your circuit on veroboard or strip-board with a stacking header for the Pico which then plugs into the LCD PCB.

Maybe you need something like this? https://thepihut.com/collections/pico/p ... l-expander

{Not a specific recommendation - please check that the pin/socket arrangement is what you require before purchasing. And it won't magically solve any pin-usage conflicts, only the physical connectivity.}

Hi,

Thank you for the advice and recommendation.
I have that extender. I want to use only that compact LCD screen.
I am trying to do a small terminal which connects to internet and gets some data.
In that respect I want to stay within the size of the LCD screen.

All the best,
