Would look nice on a shiny device, IMO. :)

I like yours too Lochie. It is the wedge idea I was trying to do some thing like this with the but my ideas did not look this good. I agree the black background would be nice on a shiny black plastic device.
Yours is similar to jayel's wedgie logo.

Tell you what, I'll design that for you and send it by message. Then you can submit to the competition and take the prize if it wins :)

Edit: Done! Enjoy.

That's really nicely done Lochie, and incredibly generous of you to offer me credit for it, but if one of them does win then there should at the very least be a shared credit for the design. I couldn't have put something that professional together in a month of Sundays.

Here they are:

Don't know if posting it here counts as entering the competition, but I'm assuming it does given it's an official thread.

statto,

Please send them an offical entry.
(They) We need the logo from you in two formats: one entry in scalable vector graphic format (EPS) and one 1000px square JPG for use on our website. Please steer clear of halftones and gradients unless created inside a vector graphics program. Color in the EPS version must be CMYK, no spot colours. And the fewer colours you can use, the better! Please keep your file size under 5MB once compressed, and email to [email protected] including your email and postal addresses, name and age (we need your age to ensure you can enter into the legal contract that winning the competition will result in). The competition closes at midnight on September 30 2011, BST.

Your logo is nice and deserves to be officially entered.

All your designs are really nice, but in my opinion they are too dark.

Thanks. I have entered it officially. There are quite a few logos on here that I like a lot (and presumably quite a few good entries that haven't been posted here).

We've had nearly a thousand entries so far. I'm really chuffed - there are some incredibly sharp entries coming in, as well - better work than what I was seeing when I was working for big publishing firms with giant branding departments. Please keep them coming, folks!

Well the red was of course the color of a Raspberry and the blue was picked just for a good contrast. Either can be changed as desired. Trying to keep is a simple as possible so it still looked readable at 1cm.

i kind of like the red (maroon to my eyes), it's the light blue that's a bit er jarring?

personally i'd probably leave the red (maroon) and the black and change the blue to white which is really transparant. then when it's small and 1bit colour (the red also becomes transparant and the black becomes white) and on a chip/circuit board it should look quite nice and visible

only my opinion of course but that's the way i'm thinking

So many good logos. I wish I had even an ounce of graphic design skills.

So how is the winner going to be decided? Public vote or are the admins going to pick their favorites? Perhaps public vote for the shortlist and then the admins pick from that?

our benevolent dictator is going to decide how it's going to be done. Eben THINKS he's in charge but it's really Liz except it really isn't Liz but Mooncake who is in charge and she's going to chase a mouse into a pile of printouts of logos and wherever the mouse is caught that's the winning logo.

Seriously though I don't think it's been decided exactly how the logo will be choosen other than the trustees will have a say somewhere along the line

My school had the exact same colors too.

my middle school's colours were black or navy blazer, light blue or white shirt, navy or black trousers and gold, black and navy for school patch and tie and was mandatory. You also had house colours too

my high school's colours were maroon blazer and maroon or black or grey or navy trousers, light blue, white, grey or maroon shirt and maroon tie with the school logo on it and was mandatory for the 4th years

Well, being in America and going to a public school, we didn't have mandatory school uniforms (except for gym), but our school did have red and blue as it's colors.

So that it doesn't seem like we've gone OT, I think that R-Pi logo should be burgundy and green. Or why not blue? I like Blue-raspberries. :)

Also OT, but does anyone know why blue is the canonical colour for things flavoured with raspberries? I was reminded when Eben's tongue turned blue after a Slush Puppy at the seaside last weekend.

Yes better get back on topic. aren't raspberry slushies blue [edit: didn't see liz's post before posting]? so maybe slushie blue for the raspberry part of the logo and a nice red wine colour for pi symbol and/lettering.

whilst we did have uniforms and house colours, i was in carey which was bright yellow, we didn't have a sorting hat :( i really wanted to be in griffindor :)

With python being a snake, raspberry being a fruit, the motto being "take a byte", and the whole endeavour being about knowledge, maybe we could do, if that doesn't offend, a garden of eden pastiche ?

Small QR barcode idea

did you use the method documented on the hack-a-day link? i tried to make a raspberry pi logo/qr a while ago but never got it working right. probably because i was on one of my low reading comprehension days.

I did ;) I had some trouble getting the size of the raspberry just right, but eventually I just said "Forget it" and probably over shrunk it a little just so I could get this up here :D
