It is. We don't have a definite date at the moment because that has to do with how quickly the distributors can get on top of the current backlog (which is massive) along with some other stuff; we're tentatively saying we'll start making them in September, but that's VERY subject to change and doesn't necessarily reflect when they'll go on sale.

If you are desperate enough for one, just take a hot air soldering station, and remove IC3 (the LAN9512 chip), then connect R36 and R37 using zero ohm resistors, and only use the lower USB port. The built in USB hub and ethernet functionality will disappear, and in essence you will be left with a model-A. (PS I would also remove the polyfuses F1 and F2, and place a new polyfuse at F2 with at least twice the current capacity.

If the Model A is going to be that far away perhaps some thought should be given to changing the website tag line from $25 to $35 :)

I don't suppose you're at liberty to give an order of magnitude figure for just HOW massive the backlog is...?

Still in the 100k's I think. That's a guess though.

The backlog will not clear until both manufacturers are able to manufacture Raspberry Pi's faster than the orders are coming in, and the size of the backlog is going to vary day to day. The actual size of the backlog will go down somewhat at each distributor when a shipment comes in and orders are sent out, and move back up as more orders and expressions of interest are placed, until the next shipment comes in.

As others have mentioned in various threads, demand or interest is sky high and very unpredictable.
