Farnell VS RS delivery times

Hi all,

i've order my pi 22 june,more then a month ago with RS,a friend ordered his pi 2 weeks ago with Farnell.
Yesterday he received a email stating they shipped his pi,I on the other hand still haven't heard anything from RS.
So now i'm wondering what's going on?

edit:

I've ordered the whole shabang (pi + case + psu + sdcard),but i've read on the forum the case is out of stock.
Can some one confirm this?

I ordered mine on 22nd June too from RS and just got my email about 20 minutes ago from parcelforce, coming from Express 24 delivery so should be tomorrow, F5 is your friend for now

Ordered mine in May, still no sign.
Fed up with seeing later orders being delivered
RS really have made name for themselves over this.

I wasn't expecting mine this early, I thought another couple weeks at least, probably more.

Initially they did say I think 11 weeks, so from May it could be any time in August really, maybe different warehouses for different areas have faster and slower turnarounds depending on number of orders

My confirmation mail from RS stated 10 weeks delivery time,only 5 weeks have past.
I just can't understand why delivery takes 10 weeks.
I'm starting to think RS means Really Slow.
I live in Belgium by the way,it isn't all that far from the UK...

I ordered from both companies.
2 raspberries from farnell and one from RS.
pre-order on 1 March from both companies
I received the two raspberries from Farnell one month ago.
RS was making mistakes, was promising, blah blah, tomorrow, in a week etc
I filed a dispute on paypal, then I escalated to claim, they didn't even bother to reply to paypal.
I got a refund from paypal and RS is still promising they will despatch the item.
What an excellent company!!! They don't even know I got a refund so they don't have to send the raspberry.
RS was one of the worst experiences I had from purchasing online.

Did you order a case with it as they are not due to arrive according to another thread until 9th August and they won't ship until your whole order is in stock.

i ordered two from RS at 17th of july with ref number 101xxxxxxx .....

I ordered 2 raspi's, one from each company. RS were the first to email me saying I could confirm the order, which I did on 22nd June (and they took my payment for the pi and 2 cases). The next day Farnell completed my order with them and a few days later I had received the Pi from Farnell. To date though, there's no sign of my order from RS.... The order email did say dispatch expected within 10 weeks, but I don't like the way they've taken the money for something they clearly don't have to supply me with

On the plus side I'm very pleased with the one I have had a play with (and is now my home fileserver) and looking forward to deploying the second one when it gets here

RS seem to be messing up big time!!!

Ordered Mine from Farnell ( on a quoted 5 week delivery ) it arrived in 2

RS quoted 11 weeks one day and 19 weeks the next ( at 4000 a day being produced thats a big backlog)

I can only assume big orders from the education sector!!!

Stick to Farnell at least they are delivering orders

@Mr Dave: thanks for the info,at this moment i'm not going to bother them since they still have 5 weeks before the delivery date expires.
I'll just wait and hope for the best.

@Paul: Yes,i've ordered a case (black,type B) + power supply + sdcard (with OS installed) and obviously a raspberry pi (type B).

Don't know if it's relevant but i've paid using paypal,a few minutes after i've placed the order.

Small update: my friend got his Pi in the mail today,so in total he waited around 3 weeks from order to delivery,keep in mind this was with Farnell.
I on the other hand still haven't heard anything from RS.

As for South Africa,i honestly don't know but if i were you i'd bet on Farnell.

I got mine yesterday, order number was 103xxx even though I re-registered few days after launch (the first time it didn't work, RS didn't send confirmation) so it took only 5 months...

Just for comparison if you want to buy new Raspberry today.
RS website: Despatch expected in 17 week(s).
Farnell: Expected delivery within 3 weeks!

And reports filling this forum that Farnell sends them right away now. Quite a difference, huh?

Yeah, I ordered Pi with just the EU power adapter.

I've given up with RS (ordered over 4 weeks ago and not a single update status), so cancelled my order and gone with Farnell. It's interesting that RS charged my Credit Card as soon as the order was placed, but is quoting 14 days to return my money - nice little earner for RS.

I have to say I am total pee'd off with RS, I placed my order with them on 21st june after being on their waiting list since march and have heard nothing since.

Last sunday I decided to order one from Element 14 (Farnell), they confirmed the order straight away then the next day confirmed dispatch with an eta of 2 days, 2 days later it arrives as promised.

I have now cancelled my order with RS and been told it will take 14 days, bearing in mind they have had my money for the PI and all accessorys (nearly £50) since june, I trust they are going to pay intrest to all the people who have had to cancel their orders due to completely unreasonable waiting times!

I have just noticed on RS's website that they are now quoting estimated delivery date on new orders of 3rd December!

What is wrong with RS!

Hmmmm, things are changing around here, 2 weeks back I got a thread removed and a warning for complaining about RS with their instant charging policy and long delivery times. Maybe it had been left, a load of people wouldn't be funding RS's dodgy business dealings through ignorance...
