Hi,
Can anybody give me details on how i can place an order for Raspberry Pi in India?
Re: Buying Raspberry Pi in India
I got it in India from Kits 'n' Spares: http://shopping.kitsnspares.com/bon1/index.asp
Do a search by "Product Name". Search for "Raspberry Pi". Looks like they are currently out of stock; but their customer service is good and responsive. They should be able to give you a lead time.
The URL shared above is a section for ordering items from element14. Not sure if it is just a commercial arrangement or if Kits 'n' Spares is a subsidiary of element14. Ordering directly from element14 seems cumbersome for Indian customers - you need to have a commercial tax identification number, for example.

Re: Buying Raspberry Pi in India
Kits'n Spares is just a second company which buys these products and resells them to individuals. (Correct me if I am wrong)
I just ordered my Raspberry Pi from element14. To register at element14 what you need is a TIN (Tax Identification Number) which is provided by the Government of India to electronic resellers and people who pay VAT. Now being an individual we don't pay VAT to the govt. directly so we don't get a TIN.
So the solution to this problem is getting someone else's TIN number preferably a relative's TIN. I used my uncle's number to register at element14.
Remember that you have to register using your name with your address and your relative's company TIN. After making an account, the process is fairly simple.
Hopes this helps.

Re: Buying Raspberry Pi in India
I can only order as an individual, so can i place an order from kits and spare instead?

Re: Buying Raspberry Pi in India
Unfortunately, the Raspberry Pis are out of stock. You will have to wait for at least 2 weeks for Kits'n'Spares to acquire some of them.
Re: Buying Raspberry Pi in India
Never mind the waiting, as long as they assure me of one PI atleast
Thanks for the discussion.
@ abhinav are you anyway associated with Kits n Spares?

Re: Buying Raspberry Pi in India
Hi, i was just checking for a Raspberry Pi model B on http://shopping.kitsnspares.com/bon1/pr ... ?id=370056
and it is available.
I read in one of the FAQ that it does not come with power cable and we have to buy it seprately. Anyone who has bought it from kits and spare can recommend one ?
and how much time they take to deliver in india
?
thanks
and it is available.

Re: Buying Raspberry Pi in India
The Pi does not come with any power supply a all. What it needs is 5V at 700mA or more (1A recommended). The Pi end uses a micro USB connector of the sort that is now becoming standard on phones and tablet chargers (in the EU using chargers of this sort for phones is now mandated by law).. I would therefore have though that you should have no trouble sourcing this locally (if you do not already have one spare).abhi wrote:I read in one of the FAQ that it does not come with power cable and we have to buy it seprately. An alternative way of powering the Pi is to use a powered USB hub and let the Pi gets its power from the Hub.

Re: Buying Raspberry Pi in India
Folks,
I laid my hands on the Pi after a wait of some 3 month (directly ordered on RS Online) and can understand your pain
. In the meanwhile, if you just want to play around with it remotely, we have made one available. You can ssh to [email protected] password raspberry (root too). I have deliberately not changed the root password as for some probing you would want to have it. Please do not hose the board though.
Enjoy,
Anup

we must be blessed in Australia
I once had to wait two days for a raspberry pi, because I missed the 6pm cut-off time for next day delivery

I now own 2 RPi - does that mean I own a circumference? - actually I own about 13 pi's now

I got mine from kitsnspares. They delivered mine in about two weeks from when I ordered. And yes, the board I received was shipped from the UK, in a package with Farnell/Element14 logo on it.rajnikumbh wrote:I have ordered a Raspberry PI from Kitsandspares .. when I called them up they told me it would take 3-4 weeks for delivery as they imoprt it .... Re: Buying Raspberry Pi in India
Hi all. I ordered 2 RPis on October 15th (in.element14.com) and received them on 20 Oct! I'm in Bangalore. It was fantastic. Got them for Rs. 6003 incl shipping and taxes. I couldn't believe I got the order so quickly and that too the new one with 512 MB RAM!
I've run Arch and XBian on them. XBian works like a charm. Smooth and fast. So far enjoying it as a multimedia box. In process of making a security cam and motion detector with the other one.
Cheers RPi!

Re: Buying Raspberry Pi in India
the "element14" part of the kitsnspares website seems to be broken right now.
You might want to give them a call and see if they can put the order through manually. The farnell part number is 2191863
