Greetings,
I recently upgraded to the Pi2. I've been running XMBC/Kodi on an old Pi for quite a while.
I installed EmulationStation onto this Pi2, and then installed Kodi after that. It boots into EmulationStation first, and from there I can select Kodi and launch that.
My TV remote is no longer working with Kodi. My TV says "CEC-raspberry" under the HDMI input, and it always worked with my old Pi.
Under System, "Peripherals" is greyed out.
Has anyone dealt with this before? Is it because I'm booting into EmulationStation first? I'd like to boot into Kodi first, but I don't know how to do that.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Re: CEC Remote not Working with Kodi on Pi2
Apologies for the bump, but I think this got buried since my first post required approval.
Anyone have any idea why my TV would display that CEC is working, but my remote still won't work?

Re: CEC Remote not Working with Kodi on Pi2
i was using OpenELEC 5.0.5 for RPi1 on my old RPi1B+ and CEC was working well on my TV.
today, i just received my new RPi2 and i installed OpenELEC 5.0.5 for RPi2.
also here CEC is working well, so i guess it is not an issue of Kodi.
but i know, my TV struggle very rarely with recognizing my RPi's CEC connection...
the only thing what helps then is to turn off my TV, wait until it goes from standby into deep sleep mode and then power off the TV completely for a while - standby or deep sleep mode are not enough.
after that, the TV will newly recognize my RPi's CEC connection again...
maybe a firmware problem of my TV - it is an older TV with no user updateable firmware possibility.
possibly you can do similar process to get your new RPi2 recognized by your TV.

That page says to look here: System -> Settings -> System -> Input Devices -> Peripherals -> CEC adapterioha wrote:what is configured in the kodi settings?
see http://kodi.wiki/view/CEC#Settings_in_X ... di_for_CEC
But for me, Peripherals is greyed out.
Re: CEC Remote not Working with Kodi on Pi2
I just plugged my Pi into my TV after using it on a different monitor, and it turned on the TV when I plugged it in. So I know it's making the CEC connection.
Re: CEC Remote not Working with Kodi on Pi2
perhaps you have to activate cec for the tv and/or search for hdmi connected devices explicitly.
therefore have a look to the manual of your tv.

Re: CEC Remote not Working with Kodi on Pi2
Yeah, CEC is definitely on for the TV. It says CEC under the connection and knows that the device is called "raspberry." I also swapped out the new Pi for my old Pi and it starts up immediately.
My old Pi always updated "Pulse Eight CEC drivers" but I haven't seen anything like that on the Pi2. Are those needed?

Re: CEC Remote not Working with Kodi on Pi2
To close this thread, I was not able to get this fixed. I formatted my SD card and installed OpenElec/Kodi. My TV remote works fine now.
Re: CEC Remote not Working with Kodi on Pi2
Sorry to reactivate this post. I am having the same issue described. I Installed KODI from RetroPie and got libCEC to work correctly. I am able to query feedbacks using "cec-client" from raspbian when pressing buttons on the TV remote. I am very sure HDMI and CEC is working from raspberry PI side. However, once started KODI from emulastation, KODI did not detects any input device peripherals.
Been looking allover but can't seem to find a solution.
plz help!

Re: CEC Remote not Working with Kodi on Pi2
In having the same problem with CEC not working, Samsung TV. Tried new HDMI cables, tried different HDMI plug, tried different power unit. CEC working on TV for DVD player.
Re: CEC Remote not Working with Kodi on Pi2
I had the same issue on my new RPi2. Then when I tried to install an addon, (IPTV Simple) and changed the appropriate settings, it started working.
What made CEC work for me, was System>Settings>Live TV>Enabled. (You need to have a PVR addon setup to enable mind you)
After which, CEC popup told me it was activated and everything worked great for hours.
However, next time I tried using it, no-go. This does not appear to be hardware related, but my Rpi2 is going to an AVR, then the TV.
Hope this helps somebody find a solution...

Re: CEC Remote not Working with Kodi on Pi2
People were going through the same problem, I could not turn on the CEC Retropie, however I found the problem was the lack of installation libcec. To solve the problem just install: sudo apt-get install libcec1 libcec2 and then restart the Kodi (in my case it was not even necessary to restart the retropie). I hope this tip helps someone else. =D
Re: CEC Remote not Working with Kodi on Pi2
I experienced same problem with tv remote that stopped working through CEC.
setup:
Raspberry pi1 / Openelec / Samsung tv.
After trying many of the already mentioned solutions above which were not succesful, I came across a post on another forum and I forgot to thank the guy so I should repost here
. This worked for me:
Turn everything off, leave your tv UNPLUGGED FROM POWER for a few minutes, restart all and hooray. Remote over CEC is back.

This one worked for me. Big thanks, dude. Hopefully it will stick. My tv is a Samsung Smart TV as well.JvR wrote:I experienced same problem with tv remote that stopped working through CEC.

Again, thank you.
Re: CEC Remote not Working with Kodi on Pi2
Solution that worked for me (using an LG TV and remote control)
In terminal insert the following command:
sudo apt-get install libcec2 libcec3
Now you will notice that Under System, "Peripherals" is not greyed out anymore, and the the tv remote control is functioning again under kodi.

Re: CEC Remote not Working with Kodi on Pi2
Hello everyone,
I am not sure if I should start a new thread or just post here, but I think I have the same problem. I've been using my RPI2 with Kodi for a long time now, but my TV remote does not work. It used to, until I upgraded the SD image.
The thing is, if I enable the debug log, I can see the key presses on the kodi.log file. Here's an example with some random key presses:
So, basically the CEC is working in my raspberry pi and Kodi "sees" it somehow, but when I press any button on the remote, it does nothing at all. It used to work out of the box in the past.
I am out of ideas right now. Please help!
EDIT: I don't know the reason, but my raspberry pi had some kind of error and Kodi recovered most of the default settings. My remote is now working just fine for the first time in months.

Re: CEC Remote not Working with Kodi on Pi2
I have tried to run the sudo command to update the libcec, but having logged on as root on openelec (on rpi2) this did not work i.e cannot run sudo command and neither the actual command itself.
Obviously i am trying this because my remote is not working with my smart samsung tv, model UE55ES7000. I am using the app xbmc remote on my samsung tablet to act as the control for now-not ideal.
The system settings input properties show
CEC Adaptor
product id=1001, Vendor 2708
Class=cec, version.libcec3.0.1 firmware v1
The remote control itself has model number aa59-00638a
I have tried powering off the tv completely as previously mentioned with no luck. Also i have done an install of kodi under OSMC on another memory card with the same results.
Is this tv/remote too new and not supported?

Re: CEC Remote not Working with Kodi on Pi2
After significant time I discovered it was another hdmi device causing cec to fail across all devices. A reboot of hdmi device one (not the affected device kodi) caused cec to resume across all.
