[Solved] New Pi 3B+ steady reboots ...

Thu Mar 22, 2018 5:32 pm

... not a good (first) experience.

I flashed new Raspbian Stretch Lite onto SD card on laptop, connected HDMI monitor and tried to boot the Pi 3B+.

First I saw 4 raspberries, without the normal boot messages, then it repeated.
Sometimes the full screen color picture appeared, but then it rebooted again.

I read that Pi 3B+ needs 5V and 2.5A.
I had connected it to a 7 port USB hub as only device.
Its power adapter states:

Code: Select all

INPUT: AC100V-240V
       50/60Hz
OUTPUT: DC5V === 2.5A
and then some symbols like CE, ROHS, ...
Is power adapter big enough?
Is USB hub an issue?

I can power all other PIs from that USB hub, Zero, ZeroW, 2B, 3B, even more than one ...

Finally I did what I would not have awaited to work, connect USB cable to laptop, and Pi 3B+ booted like a charme.

[SOLVED] Re: New Pi 3B+ steady reboots ...

It was bad power supply/USB hub..

I used another USB hub that stated 5V/2.5A with 5V/2.5A power adapter, and at least the Pi 3B+ did boot.
But it was no able to get CPU up to 1400MHz.

Temoprarily solution is to power Pi 3B+ by 25C 1S lipo and 5V step up converter.
That works reliably and achieves really 1400MHz, details in this posting:
