RPi Rev 2.0 Reboot When Plug in USB WIFI Dongle

Mon Oct 29, 2012 3:08 pm

Hi

The problem i meet is when I plug in the USB WIFI Dongle( Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8191SU 802.11n WLAN Adapter), RPi will reboot immediately. After RPi rebooted, the WIFI works well. Is the current from USB Hub is to small?
Thanks for any replies!

Best Regards

Sounds like your HUB is not keeping up, I would try a different hub. Sounds like the hub is drawing power via the pi for your USB device.

Hi thogue
Sorry, I mean the root USB HUB :-). I use another USB WIFI Dongle( rt3072 chipset), it works well. Maybe it's just the problem of Realtek's chipset.
And if possible, I will try a USB HUB powered by itself.

Thanks for replay!

Thanks for your information!
It look we could add coil and capacity to the power line of USB, or use a USB hub powered by itself. So disappointed :-(
