Chromium ffmpeg displaying static instead of videos

Wed Apr 17, 2019 5:26 pm

About a month ago I updated and upgraded my Raspbian Stretch desktop to the latest package versions. Chromium was updated from version 65 to version 72. All videos played in the browser now look "scrambled up". Several days later, I did another update and upgrade, and the chromium packages were listed again as "to be upgraded". I did the upgrade, but nothing changed. Videos still look scrambled.

This is what I see when I attempt to play a video:

Questions:
Why did I never have this problem on Chromium 65?
What could be causing this to happen?
Is anyone else having (or had) this problem?
What steps can I take to fix the problem?

Rebooted with it set to 256 and Chromium now plays videos properly!
It played videos fine, set at 64, before the upgrade; why would that change with the Chromium update?
Anyway, it works now. :)

have you tweaked chrome flags?
try chromium --disable-gpu as fast yes/no test
Then /if enabled/ try disable native memory gpu buffers, zero copy.
