xbmc-bin missing from Raspbian APT repo

Wed Dec 25, 2013 5:49 pm

I am trying to install XBMC on Raspbian, however, I get the following error:

Code: Select all

pi@pi ~ $ sudo apt-get install xbmc
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
xbmc : Depends: xbmc-bin (>= 2:11.0~git20120510.82388d5-1) but it is not installable.
Depends: xbmc-bin (< 2:11.0~git20120510.82388d5-1.1~) but it is not installable.
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
Who controls the apt repo for Raspbian, and is there any point having the xbmc package there if a dependency isn't?

The two ways of resolving this are:
  1. Add xbmc-bin to the repo
  2. Remove xbmc from the repo
If anybody wants to help, I wouldn't mind working on building XBMC from source (the advice on the Raspbian website is out-of-date).
Running a Model B (256MB RAM) with Raspbian (in NOOBS 1.3) and a Model B (512MB RAM) with OpenELEC + CEC (No NOOBS, as it breaks CEC)
