python module installation help

Tue Feb 05, 2013 5:50 am

Hi,

I want to install this module

http://pypi.python.org/pypi/crcmod/1.7

on my Raspberry Pi. I've installed mysqldb and pyserial before with
apt-get install *****

But for this, I don't know how to install it. I'm new to python. Thanks. :)

just download the source files on the raspberry pi, extract them, then go into the folder using a command line and type "sudo python setup.py build", and finally "sudo python setup.py install"
everything will be done for you from there.
If it isnt smoking and blown into pieces, it's not pushed far enough yet. :P

Thanks.

How do you download the file on an SSH client?

I usually just download the file using either wget over ssh or just ftp the files into the raspberry pi

You should get pip, a standard command line tool to install packages form the Python Package Index. Using pip you would just run 'pip install crcmod'. Take a look at the pip installation documentation. There are two quick ways to get pip (you'll need to be logged in as root to install stuff system-wide):
  • Install python-setuptools (eg. 'apt-get install python-setuptools'), which includes easy_install with which you can install pip:

    Code: Select all

    apt-get install python-setuptools && easy_install pip
  • With the get-pip.py script:

    Code: Select all

    wget https://raw.github.com/pypa/pip/master/contrib/get-pip.py && python get-pip.py
    '
pythonhosted.org/RPIO

Return to “Python”
