Media Browser 3 on Raspberry Pi

Hi there,
I'm the lead developer of Media Browser 3.

We're launching a client-server based product in May that will be targeting multiple platforms. So far, we've been able get just about every platform on our wish list:

- Android
- DLNA
- iOS
- Media Portal
- Roku
- The PC
- Windows Phone
- Windows RT

Raspberry Pi is the last missing piece of the puzzle, so I'm here to see if I can find anyone interested in contributing, and building a client for it.

We have an open Rest api that supports streaming and transcoding to pretty much any format needed. We have documentation build right into the server, courtesy of swagger, with the ability to see api methods, parameters, and even test them out in browser to see what the response looks like. Here is a preview of what that looks like:

We do not have a Linux client yet, so needless to say it is also on our wish list.

We do have some tools though that could help a prospective developer get started. We have api wrappers written in .net and javascript, which could be used as a reference. Also, our Android and iOS developers have wrappers in java and objective c, respectively, and they've indicated they'd be willing to make them available to help someone come onboard.

Yes, four actually. We have a wpf client in development for the HTPC, we also have winRT for windows 8 tablets, and then windows phone 7/8.

We also have a fourth one in development that we haven't announced yet.

I posted in here about a Raspberry Pi client, but we also are looking for contributors of all kinds - plugins, themes, ui developers. We've got a good thing going and are looking to grow our dev community.

Taking another shot in the event I might be able to stir up any interest from potential developers.

We're gaining a lot of steam as our app releases get into their respective stores (apple, android, roku, windows store, etc).

We even have a mono port of the server in progress, to get us onto linux. All that's missing now is a raspberry pi client. We have a very easy to use api and a community of developers ready to help a new member who joins the team.

Wow. This would be fantastic if it were ported to the Pi.

Before I bought my Pi I ran a PC with Windows 7 Mediacenter,. Instead of using the inbuilt library tools I ran Mediabrowser instead. In my opinion it was by far the best add-on to Win7 MediaCenter.

Unfortunately, I have no talent for programming otherwise I would be eager to help. But hopefully there are others out there on the forum who have the skills and time to dedicate to this worthy cause? Hopefully some of you will come forward to assist.

Keep up the great work, hopefully we can get this on the Pi, where it belongs.

I worked on the IOS app for media browser and would love to see a RPi client. To be able to control the media streaming in RPi using the phone as remote would be an awesome setup.

Well thanks to the joint efforts of a few Media Browser and Xbmc developers, we now have a beta of an Xbmc client for Media Browser Server. You can track progress of that here:

We are still hoping to recruit a developer for our own dedicated app on Raspberry Pi. In the meantime this will help us in our efforts to attract Pi users.

I've tested said plugin on the Pi and, after a little bit of experimenting (details at http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?ti ... pid1553696), I got it working nicely. Navigating the library using it is sluggish on the Pi (it's much faster on a proper HTPC); but video playback is flawless on both. Performance will hopefully improve as the addon is developed.

As it stands, MB3 very nicely compliments XBMC setups in that I have XBMC running on my existing devices (via OpenELEC on my Pi's and low-powered x86 boxes); and MB3 covering surface-area not already covered by XBMC (tablets/roku/web access/mobile phones/etc).

The ultimate solution for the Pi would probably be a version of MB3 Theatre that runs like OpenELEC, booting straight into MBT. This may be a while off since MBT is brand new (and not fully Linux-ported yet) - so for now, I run XBMC on my pi (via OpenELEC), and MB3 separately, with the trakt.tv plugin synchronizing watched statuses between the two.

Very nice indeed; both MB3 and XBMC are examples of spectacular open-source projects.
