MagPi Issue 27 : delayed

Thu Sep 04, 2014 8:17 pm

Hi,

Issue 27 of the MagPi has been delayed due to lack of available effort. If you are able to use Scribus or would be willing to learn, please get in touch with the editor or send me a message via this forum.

Best regards,

Will

Will

I have never used Scribus but am willing to learn, or come to that, help in any way I can with the MagPi magazine.

I have time on my hands, since I took early retirement from the Civil Service after 22 years in the Highways Agency as an engineer.

I currently live in Sunny Bristol

regards

Derek Moore

I for one, truly hope the community had some available help with this project.

This digital magazine has been an amazing help to thousands.

Well I was wondering what was up. If you want any help please let me know. Not used scribus but have used various page layout software from dos based programmes and even Commodore 64 programmes.

It's suffering from the Summertime Blues and issue 27 has been delayed. I'll ask my fellow members of the editorial team whether the email addresses on http://www.themagpi.com/contact/ are being monitored.

As Dougie has rightly said, we have had a severe lack of volunteer resource during the last month and a number of the most active volunteers on holidays or caught up with other important commitments which has unfortunately caused a delay in issue 27.

If anyone is able to dedicate any time to helping us with the magazine it would be greatly appreciated.

Email editor@themagpi.com or Tweet/Facebook the team in order to get more info.

It is really easy to get involved - you do not need to be an expert at graphic design or anything like that! Just need a passion for all things Raspberry Pi...which if you are reading this I am guessing you all already have.

Thanks in advance :-)

Hi Derek,

No, we are not dead yet. We have lost several long serving volunteers and a few others have wanted to scale back their contributions. In the past we have relied on incoming volunteers to balance the steady I/O flow through the team. The incoming stream has slowed down. We are in the process of re-grouping, such that we might continue.

Best regards,

Will

Two of the people that were reviewing the editors inbox have left and a third member has been very distracted by other factors. Hopefully, the backlog of emails will be addressed soon. In the meantime, if anyone is interested, please email the editor (as Aaron suggests). We will get to each offer of help that reaches the editors inbox.

We are lacking people who can focus on the layout and editing of articles. This requires some technical knowledge, willingness to use Scribus and determination to produce a good final result.

Thanks and best regards,

Will

Whilst I can't help at this time, once my current 'stuff' is out of the way I'd be happy to help.

I'll pick up with the team nearer the end of the year.

I can help in whatever way you want. We did speak about this a while back, do you know if it's ok if I help as a 14 year old? My parents can agree to something if need be.

Hi Owen,

We use a standard template for the Magazine layout. Therefore, the level of Scribus skill required is not too high. You can see what is involved by watching one of our training videos:

If you are interested in helping, please can you email editor@themagpi.com?

Thanks and best regards,

Will

Hey Will,

I have also sent the same reply to editor@themagpi.com, also posting it on this forum.

I have been a regular follower of the MagPi magazine and of course without a doubt an RPi enthusiast/owner.

I can help you with whatever it takes - Scribus, editing, proof reading, writing a few articles or anything else to get the mag up and running in full throttle.

Professionally I am a Lead Automation Engineer from India and have been associated with a few publishing houses as a Technical reviewer for IT books.

Will be glad to connect and help.

If I had time, I'd help, but real work (tm) is keeping me busy... and I am not familiar with Scribus either.

Hope you get more volunteers soon, I'd miss the MagPi!

Hello Will,

Although I may not be able to assist with the layout of the MagPi magazine I can help with content. I recently submitted a robotics related article to the MagPi for review. I hadn't head back from anyone if they wanted to use it in the magazine and I guess the recent loss of staff explains that.

Is someone from MagPi reading this ?
Is Issue 27 coming soon?
Do you need volunteers ?

"We are available" !!! - Is the message we want to send out.

I'd be really sad to see The MagPi disappear. I wish I knew scribus and had time to help take up the slack.

I notice that Issue 27 is up but is not available as a PDF. Is this a policy or just a lack of capacity.
